Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I would like to report that Roger laid her 15th egg yesterday at 1 1/2 years old for a average cost per egg for her of $31.45 per egg. I simple cannot afford another Roger. I'll take $20. for it if anybody is interested. Wonder if I can donate it and get a tax break? OK ...we do.....allthis4eggs

I have some excellent news to report. The little Serama pullet laid her first egg on Friday!

Mustacheio was very happy to have been the one to discover the egg too. Much excitement and rejoicing.

It's a perfect little cream colored egg and we got a second one today. If she keeps going at this rate, we may have the equivalent of a large egg in about 2 weeks. One egg weighs about half an ounce (15 g).

I will now attempt to post some pictures, but lately new images will not load for me, so here goes nothing.

Hooray! It worked. Now I will flood you with more pics.

Coffee and her first egg. She is close to 5 months old. Looking at BYC.

I tried to put the egg carton and soda can in for scale, but Donut was afraid of them and wouldn't get close.

Both Coffee and Donut weigh about 1 lb + half an ounce. Coffee is on the large side for a pullet but Donut's size is mid-range. Don't think he'll be much of a show chicken. He should have 5 points on his comb and when posing, his tail should be up straight, his chest out and neck curved back to touch the tail. He is an excellent and attentive rooster, though. Always offering food and making little nests and he stands betwwen his girl and any perceived danger (which is just about everything).

They have change quite a bit in 5 months.

13 Eggs today. Poor Betty, BR in the middle, so bare.... Blu, lower right is starting to get a nice amount of pinfeathers finally... Isis is hiding in the rear, she is also pretty bare, with only short tail feathers... the rest of the older girls have most of their feathers back... it takes so long! months!

major renovation has begun at the house! I was at Lowe's for hours today... spent a lot of $$ but not as much as I expected... flooring is on sale... that saved me about $400... so I got hardwood flooring for 2 rooms and 1 hallway, stain to match the staircase where I removed carpet, darker stain for matching the dining room where I removed carpet... ceiling paint, trim paint, kitchen paint (pale yellow color), all the molding, trim, and finishing pieces... a new light fixture for the bathroom, window glazing... I've been taking all the windows out and cleaning them, repainting them, resealing them... it's a mess around here, but really looks great considering... I have a great handyman who will put the floors down - it has to sit for a few days up here before installing... I've lived here for 12 years and basically done nothing to the place, it's time. funnily enough, I didn't take "before" pictures of the dining room or the stairs and second floor hall before I pulled out the carpet. I've also done quite a bit of painting already... I'll stick with "after" pictures... when it looks really nice.

I have 3 girls that really need a break too. I have to dig out my sewing machine and get busy.

Still no eggs, observed a bit of squatting this weekend. ..and I swear I heard one of the girls practicing the egg song yesterday morning before I let them out...ran inside and nothing. Also, one of our dogs broke his chain and killed my Road Runner. RR is a pain to round up, and he had flown into the loft and out the hay door yesterday morning. A little gsl pullet snuck out, too, but we found her hidden way back in the brush.
