Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Yea! SBMom, glad it arrived... you ladies are just so smart to know that crazy flower looking thing was a radish... I got a humongous bag of Starlight Peppermints for my prize!

Well my first wait is over. My chicken coop is finished! Now to wait for the first shipment of chicks in 2 weeks. Then I can join in the agonizing wait for a first egg!!! Is that what raising chickens is all about? Waiting???

lindz! that's quite awesome to have it finished this far in advance of when the chicks arrive. now you can keep an eye on whether or not any predators notice and try to breach it while it's still empty. on the Waiting Front, I think so. wait for them to arrive, wait to see if you really have all the pullets you expect, wait for eggs...wait for feathers to regrow and eggs to begin being laid again... it requires some patience, raising chickens, but the rewards, and frankly, the pure entertainment is so worth it! I can't wait to see pics of your new cheeps when they get home!

between yesterday's overload followed by today, I'm wiped out. my body is killing me and I seriously crashed hard when I got home. I did the barest of essential chores first... woke up just at dark - dashed about to get the 4 Eggs for the day, feed the dogs, let them out, get the cats in... I'm ready to go back to bed.

I got 2 eggs today from the candy bar girls. They all have runny noses and one of them is rattly...

I am also having to bring the littlest chick into the house and wash it's behind everyday. Clarabelle still wants nothing to do with the new chicks.

Cheeka, hopefully tomorrow will be a slower day.

I doubt Clarabelle is going to adopt those chicks now if she has not already. Better fire up the heat lamp and raise your own. Runny noses and rattly is not good. Sounds like respiratory problems

I agree, time for some Denogard, or if you can't find it...tetroxy-HCA. it works well, and best to treat all who've been in contact with the new girls.
I'm bummed with Clarabelle. I was so hoping she would be delighted to have more babies.

on the runny eye front here, all are clear and doing great, no more symptoms appeared with anyone else.

it is going to rain again today, with a somewhat clear and chilly afternoon. I hope to be able to let the girls out for a bit after work. I have to give the dogs a bath today tho'... might cut into some of that time... Pugs usually don't smell and don't need bathing often (makes them itchy and dry even if you bathe them in oil...) but Chester smells like Corn Chips, and now, so does Ruby, and because they sleep with me... my bedding smells funky, and so do I. I noticed it more yesterday because I spent an extra 4 hours in it. pew.

I had to go to the feed store today to get feed, and I asked about getting the medicine for the girls. They looked at me like I had 3 heads and said that they didn't carry it or Tylan either one.... So I am not sure what I am going to do.... I have also been thinking about mixing my own feed but haven't been able to find any whole grains anywhere. My local feed store basically carries Med.Chick Starter and grower, or laying feed.... I am wanting something that I can feed to everyone, without worrying about the chicks eating laying feed ect.... I was able to pick up some BOSS, but they don't carry any other seeds ect.... No millet or anything, just the BOSS and a Wild bird seed mix. Do you all have any suggestions?

you can always order the medications you might need from the internet... but that's very annoying that your store doesn't carry much of anything. I use a Multi-Flock feed, can be used for all ages, supplement calcium on the side... and I have Game Bird feed mostly for the boys. Since most of the girls are molting, I picked up a finishing feed to fatten them a bit. my local(est) feed store ordered meal worms just because I asked about them. the only place I can get millet in a 50# bag is in Prattsville, but that's near Gilboa... and not inconvenient. and they are an Agway... the only other Agway is further away, not sure if they carry it... probably do, it's a huge store.

it was absolutely gorgeous today - it was lovely to spend the afternoon out with the flock. Rhody has truly forgiven me finally. big baby... the day after I kicked him, I was tossing bread. a piece of bread landed on his back and you'd think I kicked him again! he screeched and took off. today, he was following me like normal... phew, drama... the Cochins are doing great, I noticed the Blue has a slight cross beak. it's not bad, she eats and drinks great... but I may be able to trim it back a bit.

I can't even see it unless I'm looking straight on. didn't even notice it until today, lady who I got them from never mentioned it either. wonder if she noticed. she sure is pretty tho' despite it, and starting to get very pink faced, she'll lay soon!
Peachy kicked all the boys butts today... one by one, chased them all off, then would come running to me to squat and get pats and seeds. so funny. She even came over to eat seeds with the big girls, which she never does.

the Blue Jay who nests at the top of this pine was screeching... I wondered why... then I wondered what the heck that big dark thing was in the lower branches... Dutch... goober. he's only big compared to a Blue Jay...
