Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Hey guys! I've been MIA for a few days.... I have been getting lots of eggs, with the November total for the month being 149! Woo hoo!
Cheeka, congrats on the new chickens. Hope your cousin is ok!

On the sex-link conversation.... none of mine regularly lay speckled eggs, but they range from a light pink/purple color to a deep terra cotta color. I will try to take some pictures of mine so you can see the color range.
I plan on keeping at least one of the BCM boys to put over everyone to try to darken the egg colors of any chicks that I hatch out this spring. Plus that should give me some olive eggers out of the EE's. I have a possibility of getting some bantam BR's... I am thinking that I am going to pass though... I don't think I want any MINI Rogers.

Wow Cheeka, your cousin is lucky you took him in. I hope he recovers well; it sounds pretty serious. I'm no fan of going to the doctor, but 3 weeks?! Yeegads, he was probably pretty sick 2 weeks ago. Best wishes to him.

thanks, I'm hopeful that he will have a full recovery. I know, he had to be pretty sick 2 weeks ago, am furious with him for being so irresponsible... but grateful that he had time enough and that he finally called... he's on dialysis now, and again in the morning. clean him up and clean him out...

I hadn't gone for 5 days once at the beginning of my worst Celiac problems... I thought I was going to die, or explode... can't imagine suffering alone for 3 weeks.

up early, missing my babies... brought out a special oatmeal-corn-millet breakfast with a bag of wilted salad on the side. of course, everyone is fine, just a deviation from the normal routine to not see them yesterday afternoon... and without the extra snack... they really cleaned up their runs, virtually no feed left in the dome, which is good. I found my 2 regular eggs from the store bought coop floor, not the nest box... wonder if they were kicked out of the nest or laid in the middle... AND a THIRD egg from the new pen! really nice jumbo pink/cream! all I've been collecting are pee wee pullet eggs, it was seriously nice to find a big'n! the little white hen was happy to see me and ate from my hand again, and the rest were happily scratching for the millet and corn I sprinkled around before refilling their feed bowl... I like the big white rooster. thinking I will be keeping him... I was out there before full sunrise, so I'll have to get pics later, I'm going to try to get finished with work early, and go visit my cousin. the big hospital is about an hour away...

the lighter colored girl, BO?

red #1, think all the reds are New Hampshires

red #1

red #2 with the maybe BO red #2 was in the nest for a while, didn't get as many pics to choose from

and the other rooster, much smaller than the white boy

I made them a kick toy, just a plastic container with holes drilled in, and filled with seeds

I thought this big boy was older, but look, he only has spur nubs. he's going to be tremendous... can't tell so much from this pic but his legs are really thick.

the saga continues. first, the lady who just gave me half of her boyfriends chickens just called. he's been arrested for assault and property damage. she's on her way in about a half hour with the rest of the chickens. and a couple of bags of feed. 6 hens and a rooster.

my cousin has had 2 rounds of dialysis, showed improvement, but had surgery to put some stints in the bladder to urethra area... he's got a foley cath and is NOT comfortable. RN said that he may be experiencing bladder spasms. they know his pain is real and are being ultra kind and keeping him on morphine. bottom line, they are hoping he has no permanent damage and will slowly recover, but fully recover.
