Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I got these 3 eggs first thing this morning....

Then I fixed these for breakfast! There are 31 in this bowl!

Beautiful! I got diddlysquat for eggs today, as usual. Freeloader chickens. I love the pinkish one. It might be just the camera or lighting, but still, I hope if I ever acquire a chicken that actually lays eggs, (I hear such mythical creatures actually exist) I hope I get a variety of shades and colors of eggs. So much more fun than a uniform box of white from the grocery store.

I have been overwhelmed by life lately. Trying to read the local thread now, and I hope to be able to start reading this one again.
I have lost two girls in the past week. Well, 10 days. Cadbury, my cross beak starved to death. My husband was home, and "taking care" of the chickens. We have had an issue with him starving them before. He did it again! He actually starved Cadbury to death! She was not able to eat as fast as the others, and not strong enough to push her way to the food when it was there.
That was the first Friday of the month. Penny was the last of my original flock. I found her Monday morning. She looked trampled right next to the empty feeders. I have learned my lesson. I just hope that my husband doesn't keep me from taking care of the chickens when he is home anymore.
I have not been getting many eggs this month. No eggs at all for 3 days. One the day before that. I also have several chickens with frostbite. My best rooster has it the worst. Again, I have learned ... I hope. I will add a heat lamp for temps below 20. Does that sound right? PA had -12 temp last Monday night, and the high was -1*. Now that there is damage, will it get worse easier?

Okay, I hope everyone is doing well. I will skim through the posts now.

It actually is pinkish!

I ended up with 10 eggs for the day! Everyone enjoyed some leftover eggs, and I cleaned the fridge out so they got some cauliflower (didn't touch it), pinto beans, chicken scraps from tonights supper, left over chicken from earlier in the week, and some left over veggies. They pigged out! I gave them some millet this afternoon while everyone was free ranging.

The last 3 cochin chicks.

Marans boys

DUST BATH!!!!!!

Rogue and Hershey!

There are 11 chickens in that hole!

Nice egg counts guys!!!! Well not for you whoops but I'm sure it's coming!!!

MC hold tight!!!! You love your chickens and that's all they need!!!!

I need help. I seriously have the stupidest chickens ever.... 3rd night out and 3rd night they don't realize they're suppose to go to bed at night! I'd leave them out but I don't trust the run. It's predator resistant but I wouldn't say predator proof.

MC, I'm sorry for your troubles. it will all get better - as for the cold... rather than a heat lamp, which can be so dangerous, why not try some Vetericyn or at least some Vaseline or Bag Balm on the affected chickens combs and wattles. I've been battling frostbite bad up here, worse than last winter. I've packed the pens with extra straw, seems to be helping. the Dome is much better, but still the 2 boys and Veronica are having trouble too.

I have a new layer! really believe it's one of the last 2 Cochins I've been waiting on. so far I have a powdery off white, a lovely cafe au lait brown and this one

5 Eggs today - including the doorway egg at the Fosters...
