Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

W4W- If you remember I started with a dozen eggs....six Delaware and Six BR. 11 out of 12 hatched. Only one was a rooster. He was relocated. I sold one BR and one Delaware pullet. So I now have a perfect four each Delaware and BR hens. All are laying as far as I can tell to who ever asked if they are laying. Getting four or five small pullet eggs a day from these young girls now. Think the first one laid at 19 weeks if I remember corectly

I was remembering cockerel(s) from your first hatch too, Little Roger's hatch. Thought you were going to keep one rooster to make sexlinks. I like roosters, just not crazy about the predawn crowing, so relocating far away sounds good to me. You wouldn't want to breed siblings too much anyway. (But he was so huge!)

Your chickens look great, very healthy. Must be all the venison they get! What are you going to do with all those eggs?!

Clindz congrats on Rawley (TBD) I just love those dogs. After reading on breed personalities more, I am going to get a pyraneese instead.
Lindz I just loved your pics! Dozen 2 days in a row, flat awesome!
Scrambles55 It stinks if you have to go and buy eggs, they just don't compare! Unless a neighbor raises them too!
Cheeka I just love your pictures as always! Egg colors are just too awesome.
W4W I am still laughing about the corn lady

SBmom I hope mine continue to pick up laying too, thats awesome!
Gilcamp4 WOW! Great egg count! I freeze a lot of my extra too, and will do more this year.
MC I like the Bourbon Reds. Spanish & Slates are really attractive too, but I have not owned one yet. I rarely hear of aggression other than the eastern wilds.
Main thing is do not hand feed, even treats. I made that mistake with Snoodles and he will peck/grab at my hands now.

Thank you, everyone for the well wishes for my MIL. She is like a Mom to me too, just love her so much.
She is in her 70s, but is being a pure stinker pushing her self so hard. Her PT even told her to slow down!
She is already walking better than she was before the surgery!
Am only a day behind now

still catching up lol!

That's great news about your MIL. Doctors are getting pretty good at replacing our parts that quit working. Wonder if I could get a bionic back....

I was thinking we could introduce the Corn Lady to one of Cheeka's NubTooth acquaintances. Could be a perfect match!

Wow lindz! that's a lotta eggs! congratulations! I could tally my counts, but I'd cry. I'm sure... too many birds and not enough eggs... but I love them so.

W4W, you're funny! there are so so many eligible nub tooth's... too many... the local judge and I ran into one another the other day at one of the vjillage's little cafe's, so I sat with him while he ate his lunch - he said he wanted to set up a sign saying [BEER ~~~>] at the front of a corner building, let them line up, and come around to the back... give them a few beers, get em buzzed, make them drop their pants, pick up 2 bricks...

and whackadoo! no more nub-springs!

he's got a point... these people are barely intelligible when they speak and then have children who grow up to speak like their parents... I should go back to school and become a Speech Therapist. I would have work forever.

I was dishing out treats and a couple of the girls sneaked out of the dome, so I let them all out for a little while, might as well, it's going to be a blizzard out there for the next several days. we have a few storms coming back to back - we dodged yesterdays that made a mess of downstate and further south, but we'll get a foot with tonight-tomorrows storm, and then we have another coming on Saturday-Sunday. I'm not happy one bit. but I'm ready. tractor is perfect and I have plenty of gas, big truck is ready to roll tomorrow for the route, no fighting with the car...not in this weather, even though it has studded tires, it's not 4 wheel drive... I'm stocked up with coffee, cocoa, milk, cereal, veggies and salad... all the pets have fresh stock of food - the Mother of the lady who I got Chester from had a 20lb bag of dog food in hand this morning - the Post Master was in the back seat... almost got the bag dropped in her lap...! it was pretty funny actually... but then I had to tell her the whole story of how Chester came to be mine and this lady is so grateful (or perhaps it's guilt) that she buys food sometimes, either way, she saves me a couple of bucks from time to time and it was perfect - I was going to buy a bag today anyway... the Route Inspection went well, I had lots of mail and quite a few big parcels, so she got to observe my routine, my customers are mostly very friendly and chatty with me... I've always got a minute to catch up with someone...just a part of good service as far as I'm concerned...

gotta get back outside, Coral was sitting when I finally rounded up the last free ranger... I have 7 Eggs already, 1 from the Fosters - and my Post Master bought a dozen eggs today, wants another next week... she was always a good egg customer, but they've sent her off to cover another office for several months, only coming to Gilboa for partial days to do specific paperwork, or like now, for my inspection. she'll be around for mail count which starts on my Dad's 82 birthday. 2/22 ~ so for the two weeks following, send out lots of mail! every single piece counts! business reply stuff, magazine blow in cards... just mail em!

Ha ha.... I got a whopping 34 eggs last month.

It is better than zero. Yes?? Actually, when I looked, I realized that I had 3 girls laying in the first week of January. I did get a nice warm egg this morning before I left for work, but nothing since then. It is freaking cold out there. About 10 degrees right now and tonight we will dip below 0. The girls are under the toy hauler enjoying themselves. I gave them some warm noodles this morning and they scarfed it up!!

My DH, who told me that chickens did not need heat, suggested that I up the wattage a wee bit in the coop to keep the girls warm tonight.

Men.... go figure. Fingers are crossed that the girls will be ok.

Stay warm y'all..... cluck cluck....

Well the post office had an epic fail last time (had chicks delivered in dec and the box was eerily quiet... You figure out the outcome of that).

BUT they came thru for me today. After giving up on getting them today once 5:00 rolled around, I was pleasantly surprised by the phone call I got from the post office/sorting place at 7:00. So I jumped in the car and happily picked up a LOUD chirping box.

What an answer to prayer esp since we're getting an ice storm tonight!!!!

Pics to follow!!! But here is a teaser!!!
