Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

LOL be sure to post pics... the rescuer sounds awfully photogenic

Ugh old plumbing is awful. good luck with that I feel your pain with copper pipes. PVC is way cheaper, don't let people scare you.
I am really awful at the feed stores. Hubby gets so mad at me cause i wander off especially during "chick days" hehe!
I go into every isle of the animal feeds, read labels, look at the "new arrival" stuff.
You will LOVE the FF, its just awesome, i am so not joking on that. cuts the feed in half, no waste, they don't stink anymore. even the poop boards!
They look so shiny and healthy I am just impressed. I took in 2 pullets (BR and EE) that were stripped bare from being over mated, they have their feathers back and are just beautiful now.

I truly believe FF saved my little runt piglet, Roxy. She is almost 5 months old now, and maybe 35-40 pounds,
Bacon is 6 months, my older pig and is easily 250. I worm, vaccinate, bathe and care for every animal here.
When i got serious with FF, I started Roxy on it and an egg with each feeding 2x a day. (Bacon too, he loves it!)
she gained most of her weight the last 3 weeks! Her fur is growing in now, and she has a belly!
We got her free and i just couldn't leave her at that farm.(she is meant to be a pet/breeder in the future)
I had intended to buy more piglets from him, after looking at the stock (what a horrible filthy place)
Told him they weren't what i wanted, looking for durocs. Still trying to be "nice"...
Every piglet there was terrified. his kids were chasing them and throwing things at them!?!?! Where do children learn that its ok to be like that...
Then i saw Roxy hiding in the barn. I said, whats with that one? He went over grabbed her, and said, here take her before she dies on me.
So tiny, she was just skin and bone. not even 10 pounds

I took her and left.
Ya, they are "just animals" UGH

but they are a living thing. Even if they are meant for food or just provide wool and eggs they deserve respect and good treatment. I hold my chickens, ducks, geese, and pet them. scratch my pigs ears, rub their backs and bellies.. brush out my alpacas and rub their necks. OK, stepping off the soapbox

We are in the process of preparing for a remodel in one of our bathrooms and kitchen due to old copper pipes
barnie.gif
The kitchen shares a drainage pipe with the bathroom. One day, while in said bathroom, someone turned the kitchen sink on, and I heard water running under the floor
ep.gif
, and thought to myself, "That is not good." There was a hole the size of a golf ball in the kitchen drain that was flowing under the bathroom floor. We fixed the immediate problem, but still need to completely redo that section of the house (plumbing, foundation, walls, everything). Fortunately for us, things are functioning for now. Just a lot of work to do.

It is offensive when you see animals living in sqalid condition, its kind of a given that as responsible owners you should at least provide adequate food, dry clean place to live. Pigs are supposed to be intelligent ( never had one) but a big difference between wallowing in a mud hole on a hot day and lieing in your own filth cause there's no choice. Even my horse would poop in one spot when I kept him in the small pasture. I don't think some people give it much thought, its just how its always been done. Hubby wants to keep a few pigs...I said they'd need their own pasture and shelter...no pig pen. Sunshine and shade.

First, let me say... that the gang took to the FF like I brought out a Sunday Roast complete with all the trimmings! they love it! and it was just way too easy with the double bucket/back slop method... it's no more difficult than dry feed really... and no waste!

CHICKS were late! but they did arrive at 9:10 am. my PM was freakin' out cuz I wanted to stay in the city... and wait for them... it's not like I can't get my job done y'know... but they finally arrived and all is well: I tortured them enough today for pics, and some don't show all the detail they have, but I'll get more tomorrow... some are a bit blurry... but here ya go!!!!!

my friend Kim babysat for them while I finished up work, and she held them for me in the individual shots... big thanks, and they got dry crumble first, not the FF, but that's been changed already. they are soooooo cute!

Glad they all arrived safe and sound. I believe your chicken family more than doubled with this addition? You keep it up and you will end up with a Roger....lol....enjoy them.

yep... I had 10, now I have 25... but with the 3 cockerels all being so sweet tempered (towards each other and the girls) and beautiful... I couldn't just pick one to cull ~ so I needed harems for the younger boys. now there are going to be 7 hens for each, plus the bantam, who will stay with either of the younger boys as she is very close to both of them... she seems to use one for protection, and the other for company... she's a funny little bird.
Si is out of confinement as of today. he's been perfectly behaved and I lost track of how long he's been locked up alone...so I figured today was long enough. he avoids the dog like the plague. good!
Royce gave me the first kick in a while... so I marched him around upside down again... my friend Kim was still here, she was laughing so hard! she couldn't believe how immobilized they become when hanging... when I let him go, and took a step toward him, at first he flared his hackles, then thought better of it and took off running! that should hold him for another month or so...
I need to build one more coop, but I have a little time on my side. I think I will convert the back garage into one large coop, move the enclosure over to the "small woods" next to the garage, and reattach the little coops to the enclosure. make a door from the garage into the enclosure... easy peasy!

It's a box full of cuteness! Ya gotta love all those cheeks! The one with the large black spot by the ear and black freckles on the head (5th pic) reminds me of a Wyandotte chick. Wonder if she's going to have lacing! It's that first pretty brown one, though, looking right at the camera. That's going to be your Roger.

I predict you will have three very happy roosters come spring.

W4W, that first pretty brown one... is so tiny and sweet, she's my favorite of them all (so far), her little bitty wings are so cute! maybe I will just tempt fate, and name her Roger...

Mine both have houses they sleep in. Agreed, they deserve warm clean beds and shelter. We owe them love and respect. I give them each a bale of fresh hay in the pen once a week, its hilarious watching them rolling and diving in it. They do have a pigpen, but its huge, about 1/4 acre. there's a low spot across the front ( its near the creekbed) so they have a waller, as well as a larger dry area higher up.They are very smart animals, Roxy and Bacon both act like dogs, I will say, never hand feed them tho. Bacon bit clean through a wooden spoon the other day... wow. They get very greedy! I dread when Bacon goes for processing, i can't go with

i'll choke up and not go thru with it.
I promise to get a picture of Roxy tomorrow if its not raining!

OOOOOOH Cheeka, they are precious, look at the lil fluffies!!!!
