Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Hehehe can't wait!!!!

Looks like you got a good mix, Cheeka. So many cuties! Is that a lot of potential blue plumage I'm seeing? No solid yellow chicks and no classic brown chipmunks (which were what my two EEs were). Going to be a wonderful variety.

Do you remember Violet Beauregarde from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? I think she has been reincarnated as one of your chicks!

Better send that little one in the back to the juicing room before she 'spolodes!

she rolled over backwards right after that little "whoa" flap shot was taken. and the one on the hat that's all puffed up in the first shot, is the same as the one in the last shot... a couple of folks think she is a he... I really hope not.

Haha! That's exactly how the Umpa Lumpas got Violet to the juicing room. They rolled her!!!

I don't think the posture in a snap shot is an accurate way to determine the sex of a 2 day old chick. It's a split second glance at the animal and not necessarily representative of how the chick looks most of the time. (Take little Roly-poly for example.) My Welsummer special needs chick had very upright posture, when she could finally stand steadily, but that was because she had no butt. Her wings extended well beyond the end of her rump and she would tip over if she wasn't standing up straight. Took her awhile to figure it out.

If they are looking at combs, way too soon. If they are looking at color, the only thing I've ever heard is that light yelllow chicks with dark chipmunk patterning and heavy dark eyeliner are always boys. This came from an EE guru who I don't see posting anymore. (Illia? or something similar). I don't think you have any chicks of the type she was describing.

So fear not! And we'll all think girly thoughts for you!!!

Is that Roche in the second hat pic? What an attitude!

they are doing so well! they have tiny feathers on their wings already, and are so active... then whoomp! keel over, sleepin' peeps in a pile up. I had a longer day today than any day since they arrived, and I was so distracted, thinking about getting home... do they have water left??? they did... but it was icky... they are so funny.

W4W, I tried to say to Kass that it's not really a "pose", the chick is in a teacup, or a curved hat brim... off balance... but she's pretty convinced it's a boy. the chick is not silver with chipmunk pattern and eye liner, as is common for boys, my Barney was just like that, and he was really big for a 2 day old... stood out in the bunch. this one isn't any bigger than the rest... just likes to stretch up (and fall over) so yes, please lots of girly thoughts... I need all of them to be girls.

speaking of falling... I wiped out today at someone's front door. their steps are mossy and it was raining, so whoomp down I went! caught my arm on the railing which caused me to swing around fast and crash hard... I'm okay, sore... but okay and I will have a nasty bruise...

it's time to go see the big gang for a bit... bring them something yummy and collect eggs, I had one first thing this morning... hoping for 5 more! I'm having eggs and Kielbasa for supper, gonna be sooooooo good!

I'll get more pictures, but there are 3 or 4 kinda brown chipmunky lookin' peeps, Roche is two tone brown, I get them so confused... lots of variety and I'm so pleased to have what looks like a majority of blues... the one in this pic that's so Violet Beauregarde, is the one that is in the 2nd hat pic with the 'tude! lol they are ALL my favorite. I simply cannot narrow it down at all... this is my favorite pic so far...

If the chipmunck stripe were a reliable indicator of sex, wouldn't the hatchery use that ? I think it indicates more the color pattern they will be. My pullets will spar with each other as chicks up to about age 5 months. Some are really hard to tell apart until the stags get their point feathers, and still the pullets will argue with all. Sometimes it worries me when I see it......oh no! Another stag?! No, just a sqwabble. Those are some Cuties....could just hug em and sqeeeeeze them! :) that little one is telling you how big the fish was they caught. I can't wait to spring for some more chicks those tiny little feet, tiny little beaks.....nothing is so cute as that. Little eggs running around. Peepers. Adorable. In the mornings I have my coffee in the broody pen. Great way to start the day. Looking forward to it.!
