Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

it's been such a long day... I can't remember if I only got 2 eggs, I think that's right, I may have more, but I never got back outside at dusk to check.

furnace guy was here today, as the furnace quit working again night before last. it's electrical, no spark... that much I figured out... so he was having trouble with it too, and I think he got too much oil flow... anyway, the whole house was suddenly full of blue smoke ~ and the chicks are in the living room! I grabbed them fast and brought them outside to clear the box of any bad air... it was fairly warm today, but I certainly couldn't leave them outside for more than it took to grab a blanket. Threw the blanket over the box and dashed upstairs. I keep my bedroom door closed during the day so my bed doesn't get covered in cat hair... no smoke upstairs... left them up there for about 5 hours just to be safe... they're fine. moved them into a larger crate this evening, and they are, of course, all bunched up in one tiny corner...

considering the cost of dried meal worms... farming them is the way to go... I gave away my 10 gallon fishtank tho'... wish I hadn't since I discovered the meal worm farming thread, kinda gross, but thrifty!

A fishing trip with left over meal worms.....a empty 10 gallon tank......and a unused closet. They are growing like crazy. Get you a plastic tub cheeka and get with it. Most simple thing to do if you have a warm place to keep them

Sorry to hear about belle, but I think your doing the right thing. Surgery carries no guarentee either. Animals have a remarkable ability to heal, if the ligament isn't completely torn she has a good chance, may always limp...but could even with surgery. If she's not suffering at rest, I'd leave her be, and i agree, no pain med to mask the symptoms. Right now you don't want her to overuse it. Perhaps it will stress the other leg, but there are plenty of dogs out there with three legs.
A good vet is hard to find...I like the up front office interview....if they start telling you to get this panel and that profile...its just a money maker. Absurd...they want to run a bunch of blood work on a perfectly healthy animal...why? To calibrate the equipment? Any vet that plays on your emotions to make you feel guilty about making a decision is not -imo- a good doctor.
Keep in mind, the injury is probably harder on you than the dog...all she cares about is that you still love her. Let us know how she is doing.

the warmth needed to keep the meal worms may be an issue... I'm not just frugal when it comes to heat in the winter... I'm rigid. I keep the house at 60*. I will turn it up to 64-65* for the evening hours, say 7-9, or 8-10, if I have company. not if I don't... I don't like heat, and the older I get, the more I dislike it.
Mealies might not stand a chance...
