Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Not intended to start a political debate. I just like the picture.

Hahahah! I do like this pic! Sure does show the rooster doing his job well. Good guy.

That first hen is telling the rest, "Girls, wait 'til the gator grabs him, then will dash over while he's otherwise occupied."

it's just plain nasty here today

and I'm happy to slosh around in the puddles in my nice muck boots. I wore them to work today, got lots of compliments because they are noticeable, paisley patterned... I finished my Christmas shopping yesterday and treated myself to nice moisture wicking wool socks to wear on days just like today. fortunately, it did not turn really nasty til about an hour ago. It poured all morning through mid afternoon ~ I had 18 small packages that fit in mailboxes... and 31 that did not. plus a certified letter, and the Power Authority, which is a daily dismount for me... I don't have a right side drive, I sit in the center, drive with the left hand and foot, and had to climb out of my car 33 times. in the rain... delivery with a smile, it really is my pleasure, I am a dork. I love parcels, people are happy when they get their packages, and it is infectious. so mix this delirious parcel happiness, with my silly somewhat juvenile attitude... and lots of rain... I put my muck boots to the test and jumped in lots of puddles on purpose.

I had a few errands to run after work, my car was packed... I picked up a couple of bales of hay, 100 lbs each, 50 lbs of chicken feed, had quite of few gifts from my customers... and I dropped a jar of apricot preserves in the driveway. smashed. such a bummer. then I lost Isis' egg. it must have fallen out of my pocket. I can't find it anywhere, and I've looked! hay is unloaded, both coops and the nesting boxes are freshened, a 55 gallon bag of leaves in the enclosure, and a little free range for the gang ~ for the very first time, Peach was on the ground already waiting at the door with everyone else and not a one was chasing her off! I always have to go in and pluck her off the roost and carry her out. Now that she is laying, (Blu was in the apple coop this morning inspecting her egg when I came out with breakfast) the gang are much more accepting. it was a great moment for me to see her right in the midst of everyone. Ranging didn't last long, the light rain got heavier and suddenly turned to snow, which is preferable... it rained so hard the sump pumps in the cellar are running pretty steadily... so, me and my 2 remaining eggs are gonna go eat some supper! bbl

Chickens! Too funny! Gator crossing. Yeah cheeka- knowing me I'd be mushing those brains barehanded, so many people were against it, I decided to go with the flow and safety first. Just staying away from brains and spinal fluids for now. Looks healthy, acts healthy, could be dormant. I did a stint in micro for awhile, so i 'm up to procedure, no worries, my technologist also placed any spinal fluid specimens on a high protocol list as well.....those things won't just make you sick, they'll kill you, she said.....so you had to have flawless technique to work with those. I don't think there's a cure for encephaleoitis....I like to not waste any part if possible, just cause I'm frugal (or maybe cheap) oh! Hey! The world is still here! Fantastic. I didn't notice anything, except my watch did stop...but that was months ago. Got anew battery and it works now. Yea! Another year!

we want chick pics!

Wow you had a busy day! Wool socks are my fav too, i have an extra big pair of boots just for them lol! I am headed to the beef farmers house to get hay, my girls wouldn't do anything, ducks guineas, totally dumbstruck by the snow. My BR gabbed all day bababababawwwk and stayed in the coop. The geese not only like it but went straight to the pond, goofballs

We got the hard rain then the snow, its a mess, still have high winds. Pizza nite here!
Yay jchny! The chicks are here!! More cuteness to enjoy! Congrats. Watch the weak one carefully, it might need help getting enough food and water. When I got my Welsummer chick that was not expected to survive, I did a lot of research and tried the idea of giving her a little sugar water, which I did several times a day for 3 days until she quit falling over and was interested in the food. It might be good to try sav-a-chick in water if you have any. I really like my black Australorp. Such beautiful feathers, iridescent in the sun, and a nice plump shape. I think you will be very happy with them.

I have been checking in here, but have been super busy and am still behind with everything I need to do. Hope everyone is well and keeping warm. We are expecting 3 days of rain, and supposed to be windy on Sun as well. Hope the power stays on!!

The chickens are going to get a serious case of cabin fever (coop fever) in the next few days. Gimpy Belle is doing marginally better with her torn ACL. Spending a lot of time in the house, but I've noticed her testing the leg and putting a bit of weight on it, so some progress. We've always had big dogs. Scooter (stray poodle mix?) is the smallest dog I've had, and he's so much more convenient, easier to bathe, takes up less space, eats less. But I'm not crazy about the small dog energy and piercing yappy bark. I like big loafer dogs!

Ah, a break in the rain. Going to check for eggs and see if the mob wants out for a while. Talk later....

Thanks, i did do the sugar, my gramma always said that too. I have a package of electrolytes i want to mix up, since it is so cold the boost won't hurt a day or 2. The one lil guy falls asleep a lot. seems a little better this evening, is eating and drinking now without gentle reminders. Glad to hear Bella is improving, That's a tough thing to heal, but she has you to help her! Our last "big dogs" were an English mastiff, and a brindle boxer. I had a rottie for 9 years before them i lost to bone cancer, and tons of German Shepards. UGH! yappy piercing barks....Sadie has a Chihuahua bark
barnie.gif
not a pug bark. that's here only fault tho, the nervous yappieness thing all Chihuahua seem to have.

We laid

cause the snow and wind scared the rest away!!!!

Roger is leaving for the North Pole today. She asked me to remind everybody to remember to throw scratch up on your roof on Christmas Eve and if you forget "you might need to get your chimney cleaned"

I'll be leaving right after breakfast for the North Pole. Looking forward to my new opportunity with Santa's sled team. See you all when I get back. Wish me lots of treats. ROGER

I knew Roger would not leave till after breakfast. She would never miss that. After breakfast I took Roger out to the picnic table in the yard and sat her on top of the table. Sort of a "launch pad" for her to begin her trek north. I must admit I got a little emotional. She looked so proud and determined standing there. I couldn't resist giving her some more of her favorite treats. Besides she had a long journey ahead of her. We both stood there for a minute looking at one another. I asked her if she was sure she wanted to do this. She looked at me like my ex wife did when I suggested we save a little money for a rainy day. I knew then there was no changing her mind. Roger then turned around, squatted down slightly, began flapping her wings and lifted toward the sky. She looked a little out of balance and it wasn't smooth at all. Kinda looked like a airplane thats missing a wing. She managed to clear the rooftop of the house but just as she did she quickly lost altitude and began to tumble toward the ground. I heard a loud thud in the front yard. I gotta go check. I'll be back.
