Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I have noticed that there is still significant weight difference between some of the birds on opposite sides of the size spectrum... but yes, she's pretty much caught up, although she just may be a smaller bird, Isis is small compared to Blu... shoot... Isis still peeps at almost 9 months... peeps... I'm not kidding. it's funny, Peach makes bigger girly sounds than Isis.
the older gals are looking a little ratty feathered. mating and egg producing, I guess... they are fine and well feathered... just ratty, I will increase the protein, they just don't look great for update photos...
I'm sure hoping for all girls, the one that I thought was lookin' like Royce as a chick is no taller than the medium range, so that makes me more hopeful. can't keep any more roosters. shouldn't keep all the ones I already have, but so far, so very very good... life in the dome is peaceful, before long, the chicks will be old enough to wreak some excellent Springtime havoc and rearrange the order of life in The Dome

My wife finally let me take down the Christmas lights on the house and put my coop lights back on the timer. We'll see if the supplemental light ( 0500 - 0800 hrs) in the mornings will get my hens a-going again. I hope to not buy another dozen eggs.

Lights should help, maybe a little extra protein boost and of course pie will get them going. Are they older?

My Leghorn pullet who wants to be a rooster also is the only one who still peeps. She is also the only one who mounts other pullets, which we find a bit disturbing.

MC ! and nicely put as well! I ended the day with 6, little Peach capped the total with her perfect pee wee egg.

the deer pic is blurry, they all are
sad.png
as I kind of figured as I took them through the window, double pane... and even a lot of the chick pics are blurry, because they are always moving... but I picked the best...

Chicks are such monsters spilling their food, I gave them a feed crate. they can enter from the live-in crate, I spun it so I could take a few blurry pictures...

the live-in crate is lined with feed bags, I ran out of cardboard... and if I leave any door open, they leave, so when spun apart to show new perchers, had to have the door closed... the ones on the piece of cardboard are waiting to get back in to eat... but perching lessons have begun and they are quick learners!

they are at the beginning of that awkward stage... when most folks don't think they are too cute anymore... they are not interested in being held, not a one of them... very different from the original gang... and they are highly active...hence, not too many individual shots as they are freakin' blurry...

Adorable!

Mine are getting the "leggy look" too! I love how all yours each look a little different. Lots of feathers now, gees they grow fast!

Hey Cheeka, that deer looks COLD. The ones around here don't get anywhere near as thick a coat as that. The chicks are looking good. Did little IttyBit catch up with the others yet? The fact that none are overly friendly might be a positive indicator for girls. Seems like it's usually the cockerels that are friendly.
That deer looks very pregnant to me. She should be this time of the year.

yes, she's pregnant, I always have doe groups living on my land, this years younger group are bedding down 25 feet from the house, closest yet, usually they use either of the side woods and rarely, the little woods... they are even closer than that this year, but they do have seriously thick coats too...

Do y'all take your Christmas lights down? Really?

We live at the end of a road, only a couple of people go past, so rarely put lights up. This year Mustacheio was HINTING that he'd like some lights, cause he could remember WAY BACK when he was REALLY LITTLE when we put lights on the house and how nice and pretty it was, made it seem MORE LIKE CHRISTMAS.

So hubby strung some lights around the lower branches of the overgrown oak tree right out front. Looks great and easier than putting them on the house! We'll see how long they stay up.
