Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

10 hours of sleep... I feel a lot better, but I sure do wish I had an easy day today. it won't be... a Tuesday after a Monday holiday is brutal... the mail moves 7 days a week, so Monday is always double volume bc we don't deliver "regular" mail on Sundays... so today will be triple volume, and it will be upwards (downwards?) of 15 below zero. we got about 1 inch of snow... tomorrow will be colder, around 25 below. I have one hour before I have to leave, and I have to do 2 sinks full of dishes (I have a double sink... and both sides are full), scoop cat poop, feed all the birds, wash my hair, and run the vacuum where the cats dumped a yucky ashtray that I didn't empty from when I had friends over on Sunday.
W4W, I have a jacuzzi bathtub. it's quite large, and it's the only bathing unit in the house. no shower... just a roman hose... sometimes I wish I had a proper shower so bathing could be a little faster... I don't like to just use the hose thingy.... it doesn't heat up the bathroom like a shower would... no steam buildup... so it can be kind of cold... and yes... the PO did hire, but it's for the Sunday/Holiday Express route, so it only helps me for days like yesterday. I still have no relief carrier, and have to borrow a carrier from another town if I need to be somewhere else... she does her route first, then comes to do mine n the afternoon. would love to have the luxury of calling in sick, but that would cause problems for someone else... the carrier i'm working for today needs to be home, her husband just had the surgery for his torn ACL, and apparently it was a difficult surgery. surgeon broke the tip of the drill off in his kneecap, and he could not retrieve it....

anyway, I'll be back later on... have a great day everyone, stay warm! ACW ~ we miss you, hope you are doing well, and will have a chance to catch up with us soon!!!

SIX.....Today We Laid SIX Eggs...

7 Eggs today, yet again, a perfect day!

this morning, there were 6 eggs in the nest box, all nice and perfect... and Peach had laid hers by the time I got home from work. thought maybe a few were from yesterday, but there were no afternoon eggs from the dome residents... Peaches injury is really healing nicely, still bare skin, but the cut is closed. She's gotten a bit used to being in the house, and when I let her out of her crate this afternoon, she challenged everyone... the dog was really good, Ruby didn't overreact at all, and the cats ran away... it's so funny to hear her little stomp stomp behind me and I go about my chores... she follows me all over the place, I don't let her in some rooms... but it's so funny. It will be great when her aprons arrive and she can go back outside... but in the meantime, I am making the most of having a house chicken...

the pictures of the crooked neck chick did not come out. there are some nice pics but they don't show her disability so clearly... but this is her

see how she's torqued?

this is about as normal as she gets... but she gets around fine, she is a bit bigger than the rest which is good.
the vitamins do seem to be helping

7 today.

Although one girl was not feeling too well this afternoon. Just sort of standing around not doing much of anything. When all the others stampeded the gate to go up to the garden, this girl didn't show up for a minute or so. Crop had food in it, but she wasn't interested in eating.

Didn't see or feel anything wrong, but she did not lay today. Hoping she will be back to normal tomorrow. It's supposed to rain.

Cheeka, your crooked-neck chick can eat okay out of a bowl? I wonder if she has the depth perception to pick up individual bits or to jump up on a perch. Does she crash into things? If you are seeing improvement already with the vitamins, that's great, but you'll have to keep it up for at least a couple of weeks. Wish I knew more about what's wrong with her. Poor girl.

If it is a BR not feeling well it will get worse. Might find her on her back with her feet in the air. She will be fine. It's called "Lackofpie" . It started in Kentucky with a BR hen who survived it but it is very contagious. It is most common in chickens that have access to social media, text, ect. It's spreading like wildfire. Only known cure is .............PIE fed daily until the symptoms are gone and you realize it is a important part of their diet.

On a serious note I get one of those chickens "not feeling well" on occasion. Not interested in eating. Standing around. Seems like it is always followed by a soft shell egg then back to normal. Just my limited experience. I'm only qualified to give expert advice on Pie and psychological related issues due to lack of. So try pie first and if it continues consult medical advice.

the chick eats very well from a bowl, as well as from my hand. she can pick up individual seeds if they are big enough of course... millet is so tiny, no one takes just one until there are only a few left in my palm... roosting is the issue now. she wants to, but the roosts I had were fairly narrow (curtain rods) and she would fall off. a few days ago, I found her roosting on the piece of cardboard that is at the front of the crate, someone else must have hopped up there first (one of the black and whites does like to do that...) and pulled the board out a bit. the cardboard is so much narrower, but the "lean" created made it possible for her to balance. so last Sunday, when I borrowed the extra crate, I used a piece of wall trim, and slid it through both crates. it is wider, and i will watch to see if she ever uses it... so far, I haven't found her up there. I'll pulverize children's vitamins forever if it helps her... for the last 2 days (granted, I've not been home for large chunks of the day...) I have not seen her do the extreme twisting that ended with her head completely upside down, yet still in front of her body, with her ruffling her chest feathers and falling over.

it is sooooooo cold this morning. it's about 15 below with the wind chill, and it's going to get colder as the day goes on, rather than warmer... the sun will be out, but the weatherman stated "don't expect the sun to make it feel warmer" Long Johns, and layers will be essential today... when I took the pooch out this morning, it didn't feel too bad (for me) but Ruby was so swift with her business and still was lifting one of her hind legs when she was coming in. I warmed her right up, got the cold from her toes, and she's happily snuggled up on my easy chair, snoring away. I haven't gone out to the dome yet, it's still dark, and the gang doesn't get off the roost for another 20 minutes or so... I've gone out at this time, and they don't greet me at all... so strange, so I usually wait til it's time to leave for work, fire up the car to warm it up, bring them their feed and fresh water, check for eggs, bring my containers back in and any eggs... and split.

have a great day everyone!
