Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

WOW i just changed all my plans again!

I found someone closer that carries several of the birds I want. their web page is
http://chickenscratchpoultry.com/home
The Ameraucana, Olive Eggers. Lavender Orpingtons. and Coronation Sussex. I already have my GLW, and my australorps! I just ran across the Sussex a few days ago, looking up the different heritage breeds. They sound wonderful, and a very attractive bird. Really excited to get it all going. We will get all our breeding pen supplies next month and then I am ordering the hatching eggs. Hubby wants to get 2 incubators so we can run hatches almost nonstop.
Going to order meaties and BBW turkeys also, will get them in february. I want to raise and sell the mini white turkeys. They are a good fit for a lot of the families around here.
One more breed I think we are going to do... She is DH's favorite girl...Barred Rocks!

Since last week, I hardly remember that I have roosters. I hear a squawk and look to see a roo doin' his thing, but they don't bother me at all (knock on wood).
I had nine today, and only 6 yesterday. That is the lowest in a long time. One egg today was frozen (not cracked) in a pile of poop under the roost. The hunk of frozen poop was just too big to deal with. I stomped it until it FINALLY broke for the girls.
Did a lot tonight. Cleaning carpets, doing dishes, cleaning the kitchen, moving furniture... Roger stole my credit card (I think I mentioned this a month ago) around Christmas. I just found a $70 charge that I know I didn't make. I am hoping the bank is able to take care of it. The fun didn't end there (does it ever?). I had like 4 automatic payments that the amount had changed. Some things never came out (I could have paid cash one time, but the cable bill dating back to October? Nope). I am just hopeful I can get the checkbook to balance tomorrow. That and get the coop cleaned.
It is so cold, but the poop (remember, I am using sand) must come out. It is frozen in there thanks to the last defrost causing so much mud, and getting tracked into the coop. The pine chips would have stunk, but frozen poop and sand is a problem too. Poop flies up when I try to break it up.

Good night, all. Keep warm, and give lots of pie!

MC good to hear his departure has helped. Hope the group settles and puts it behind them. UGH that stinks I had my bank account hacked by a googlecash thing. $79.99. I have since changed banks, they were rude and difficult until they realized it was a national scandal. (FYI, that was charter one/citizens bank) I hear ya on the poop board cleaning, its going on 6 days, all this coughing and bronchitis if i go outside long it feels like i can't get my breath. I feel awful guilt it hasn't been scooped but we are supposed to warm up next few days.

Wow jchny! Those are some gorgeous birds. The blue Ameraucanas are lovely and lavender Orps are be-yoo-t-ful. Never saw Coronation Sussex before, and I can see why you like them. Pretty, but very substantial and solid looking too. Did you see the Black Copper Marans? Cool eggs.

You know, if you got some of the Marans, you could make your own olive eggers with the Ameraucanas. And the olive eggs look really nice next to the very dark brown ones. In a few years you are going to have a hundred birds!

Folks on my local thread are incubating fanatics, but are constantly disappointed with the hatching eggs that are shipped long distance. Only about 50% hatch rate at best is expected. They have said that anytime you can avoid shipping, you will be better off. Are you close enough to drive and pick up the eggs yourself?

I've never incubated before. Think I would get some cheap eggs for a practice run before trying those 'spensive ones. Maybe some BR eggs?

So the doctor said that they have NEVER seen an aneurism inside the kidney, bat that it was small enough that they just wanted to watch it. I have to have an MRI next month, though. Fun, huh?
ugh... Oh my, u poor thing my prayers are with you. MRI isn't bad but is kinda freaky.

the doctor should explain what to expect. Did they explain what an aneurism is? I am studying medical transcription lol, plan to do it part time.

Don't you just love being different and special when it comes to medical issues? Any time the doctor says "this is unusual" it makes me want to run for the hills. MRIs aren't too bad, and you've already proven your ability to hold your water with camel like grace

so it will be a piece of cake. Actually, I've never had an MRI, but my oldest son had one before he was born. I was 5 and half months pregnant.

Talk about having to go every 10 minutes!

Glad you're not going in for surgery.

Hang in there!

Good idea on the olive eggers! They are about 6 hours from me, close to MO. I did look at the marans

they have some lovely birds too. I love the blues! wonder if they would produce the olive colors? This will be my first time incubating. DH is really getting interested, so i know he will help me too. I plan to try hatching my glw's before i try the "high dollar" eggs LMAO! i only have 3 hens now so a few more wont hurt, and Red will just have to accept a few roos

the only other lavender orp breeder is about 3 hrs away. they aren't offering any of the other breeds i want but they are cheaper, $7 a chick..

The olive color comes from the very dark brown (from the Marans side) that is deposited over the blue eggs, so it should work perfectly. All egg shells are either white or blue. Brown eggs are made when a brown coating is added over a white shell. Green eggs are a brown coating over blue shells. Check the inside of the egg shell to see the base color. Different genes control these, but the gene for blue eggs is located very close the gene for pea combs (which the Ameraucanas have) and the two traits are usually inherited together, so once you start cross breeding, you can pick your breeding roo by comb type to make sure he is carrying the blue egg gene.

You are going to have so much fun! Chicken Math rules!

I am considering becoming a rouge BR breeder. Breed for evil tendencies. Molty birds are a plus. When breeding is perfected the result would be a bird that could lay a egg with perfect timing while flying over a targeted car, house. or person. Birds would also be able to consume their own weight in flowers and vegetable garden plants, fruits, ect. Have a special technology unit for hacking accounts, stealing identities, and demanding PIE as ransom. "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheep" Interested is your thoughts on this one.
