Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Welcome showbarnmom. Hang around and we will "wait it out" with you. With 6week old and 3 week old chicks we probably got plenty of time to talk about it. Unless they are BR's and in that case anything could happen at any time. Glad you joined us

I am an overachiever today. I didn't make pie, I made Apple Monkey bread.
8 eggs for the day. No broody. Maybe later... Okay, it had BETTER be later. I got them for broodiness.

I had 5 eggs today! OK so they weren't from MY flock, but my free rangers at work. Who are the parents of my flock. I was wondering what my eggs were going to look like. My flock is made up of 3 6 week old chicks and 9 3 week old chicks. They are mixed breed and all black. We live in texas, and I've got the chick mansion

and welcome to our waiting party! I figure I have 93 days of waiting at the most for my little gang... 7 weeks old now and getting big... I am really hoping that we get that promised 50 degree day on Wednesday. I will take them outside for the very first time! it's 55 in the room they live in, so the difference will not be noticeable, especially if the snow melts and the grass is showing

nice MC, that' really looks yummy! I got a big fat goose egg today. notta one.

we ate before the movie, which was smart... we were so stuffed, there was no need for over priced snacks from the theatre, just a big bottle of water. I love this restaurant. the food is very traditional, it's not Chinese/American fare. they specialize in fish although they have the other meats. I had a bit of duck, but loaded my plate with salmon and shrimp and squid and tuna and clams... for dessert, fresh pineapple wedges (like 8 of them...) orange quarters and melon, both honeydew and musk melon... giant grapes (a little indelicate spitting the seeds, but I tried to be casual...) the movie was good. a bit slow at times, and dry... and yes, I admit, it, I actually dozed off for about 10 minutes after the first half hour. I don't think he noticed. I'll admit it here, but I'll deny it to the end if he asks!

who me?? haha!

The show yesterday was great. Never have seen so many HUGE chickens and so many tiny chickens. We didn't buy any chickens, but the Serama seed has been planted for Mustacheio who fell in love with those little beauties. The roosters have such a diminutive crow that I think we can have a rooster or two and breed some mini-chickens for fun and pets for the kids. My husband, on the other hand, really liked the big boys. Brahmas and JGs and Orpingtons especially in blue. Either way, giant or bantam, we would have to build another coop to accommodate any of these guys!

I took a few pics, but mostly for capturing the individual character of some of them. It's hard to take good pics when they are caged. The bars get in the way and there is not much for scale.

Some comb!

Some wattles! (Minorca)

Ho hum... little bored here. Brahma

Guys, I think my Dominique has Gapeworm. She's yawning a lot, won't eat, and is just generally dull. What should I do??

Time for a stool sample.. and a good worming. I believe in testing before treating.
good morning! so nice to sleep til 8:30! but the gang was a bit miffed that I was so late bringing breakfast... the temps are back up so the waterer is liquid... news is claiming that we will have 2" of freezing rain and snow tomorrow, but now wednesday will be 50 degrees! thursday, back down in the 20's... it's okay... I'll take 50 for one day... it's january after all, it's supposed to be cold.

yep, 3rd date... no holding out, my schedule is so hectic, and I have lots of responsibility at home, so I don't go out on nights before work. this is an afternoon date, so I will be home pretty early in the evening, and I have an easy day tomorrow. left word with the office of the sick carrier that I cannot help on Monday (desperately need an easy day...) or Tuesday (doing my taxes on Tuesday afternoon...) but I plan to make a nice supper one of these days and have him up for a quiet meal and maybe a TV movie... we'll see. I'm a slow mover when it comes to this kind of stuff... "distance lends enchantment" as my mother says... he thinks I'm wonderful

Howdy! It's always better to have company while waiting, so welcome! Are your chicks all from white eggs? I am trying to think of black breeds of chickens that lay white eggs. Probably any of the Mediterranean breeds like that Minorca with the huge wattles. Really doesn't matter what kind of chickens they are as long as they are the kind that lay eggs!
