hey guys! A close friend/cousin of mine had to leave my school. Partially b/c of financial issues, but also partly b/c of bullying. Now, she is almost never on FaceBook, the only way I can talk to her anymore. My parents keep telling me to "give her her space, that she needs room to 'heal'". But I feel like she needs a good friend right know, like me, that doesn't care whatever stupid rumors I hear. And trust me, I've heard a lot of stupid stuff. But I don't know why so many people would hate her. Most of the rumors sound to me like they were made after she left, but no one will tell me anything else. I've asked the people to stop talking badly about her, at least around me, but they won't. What should I do?

jch,

that is so cool! more chicks!

I'm good, not a terribly long work day, almost 6 hours, we had all "late" express parcels because the downstate areas were closed yesterday for the storm, some offices hadn't missed a day in over 20 years........ the closures went all the way up to the 124_ _ zip codes, which includes Prattsville, only 7 miles from my office... and that's where the 100 mile route that I like is... the regular carrier was kind of miffed, we've delivered in much much worse, but they did not bring his mail, so he was forced to take the day off... (rough, eh? lol) but because of that, Monday will be a heavy load, and we are expecting sleet and freezing rain for most of the day. I offered to go sort his 3rd class mail in the afternoon, so he could go straight home after his day. he's thinking about it.
I got the entire driveway re-snow-blown this afternoon, all the wind shifted it back everywhere, but it's heavier now, so it should stay put and should also melt quite a bit tomorrow. supposed to go up to almost 40* by the high point, it was below zero this morning again (-7) so upper 30's will be a heat wave!

hi AL, that sure is rough. and sad. best you can do is send her a message on fb, and wait to hear from her. she will need some time and space to get her feelings sorted out. and you can be there when she's ready. she will need a friend, and she'll reach out, it won't take long. I don't understand it myself, why kids are so mean to each other, but as a former kindergarten teacher, I can tell you, it starts there. in my first year teaching, I observed the girls. the last girl to arrive at school was the day's target. no one would play with her, or talk to her (nicely), and the next day, it would change to another child. I would have thought the memory wouldn't be so short lived, but the girl who was picked on yesterday was eager to be part of the "in" crowd today...

my experiences with bullies, a few, just a few... are too painful to really talk about, even to this day and I'm

..... but the most ridiculous was this: in 9th grade, I made the boys varsity swim team. so the... i don't know who started it... other kids started calling me "Scott". someone said it was because I looked like Scott Baio. but I don't. it was just mean. so... I ignored anyone who called me that, got to the point where I didn't talk to too many people as Scott stuck. by Senior year, 2 other girls made the boys team, but they didn't get re-named... eh, I was a champion, they were jealous... if all they could come up with was Scott, I could live with it. but I spent a couple of years feeling pretty badly... at the 10th HS reunion, I got a lot of apologies, and at the 25th, I noticed the meanest of my class all looked old, some of the women looked like actual witches, hawkish, pinched. it takes it's toll on us physically, to be mean and rotten. I've never been a meany, the only lines on my face are the kind you get from laughing and smiling, (oh, and maybe one or two from squinting because I need new glasses...)

it does take its toll. I just wish there was a way I could just make it STOP. She acts like it doesn't exist, but I know it does, and I know that she hates it. She knows it's there, even though quite a bit of it is behind her back. Every now and then she drops by at school to say hi to all her friends: me, a guy named Nat a few of my friends, and some other people. I LOVE it when she drop by!! I never would have played French horn without her. I probably wouldn't have stuck through band a year or 2 ago, but I did, because of her, and I love it. Oh, and my brother's name is Scott

AL ~ she'll rise above it, she has friends, good ones, so just be there when she reaches out. those things should be in your message... that you wouldn't be where you are today if it hadn't been for her, that there are parts of your life that you absolutely love, and it's because of her support and encouragement that you discovered such a big part of yourself. you want her to know all this, as her friend, because it means that she has whatever supports she needs to find that same happiness. that's what friends do for each other...

to your bro! I've had much better nicknames since then... especially my horse riding (or bailing, or falling or flying) names... like Flip, Cowgirl, Annie-Air-Time, Stitch... I like those

took 11 stitches in me elbow in 2011, that's when I got Stitch...

nice names!! One of the nicknames my dad gave me is Velcro. I rode a mechanical bull better than anyone at church once, so Dad called me Velcro! I've told her all that about her being my inspiration. I just miss her. I looked forward to playing French horn with her for 3 years, then, when I hit my Freshman year she had to quit

my Dad called me (calls me still...) Petunia Blossom, or Flower Pot

my best friend from my childhood, her Dad called me the Vulture (her Mom's cooking was out of this world!)'

my younger brother calls me Toenail, but I call him Stain... my older brother calls me Sis, and that bugs me... but when we were kids, he called me Pisena (sp) it's Spanish for swimming pool, but I didn't know that back then, and Pisena sounded nasty.

the first few kids that called me Scott, got a fair beating from me... but that made it worse, some kids called me Taz, short for the Tazmanian Devil in the Bugs Bunny cartoon, the whirling, screeching horror... and I sure didn't want that to stick, so I took the peaceful, quiet approach...

when I was little, my brother was even littler. He couldn't pronounce my name, or my nicknames. So he had 2 nicknames for me. Dadu (stuck with my dad and my cousin (different cousin)), and Madufan. Haha. Now he calls me Mad most of the time. He wanted to shorten my nickname Madu. It gets confusing when he calls me or dad
