Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

hey guys! A close friend/cousin of mine had to leave my school. Partially b/c of financial issues, but also partly b/c of bullying. Now, she is almost never on FaceBook, the only way I can talk to her anymore. My parents keep telling me to "give her her space, that she needs room to 'heal'". But I feel like she needs a good friend right know, like me, that doesn't care whatever stupid rumors I hear. And trust me, I've heard a lot of stupid stuff. But I don't know why so many people would hate her. Most of the rumors sound to me like they were made after she left, but no one will tell me anything else. I've asked the people to stop talking badly about her, at least around me, but they won't. What should I do?

If they still go on, I would just tell them, look, I don't want to hear this. calmly turn and walk away. That will get your point across quickly. If it doesn't, do you really want to keep talking to them? I don't envy what you are going through

The old fashioned manners and caring about another is rare to see in people. That why i love this forum so much, its thriving here!! Just send your friend a card in the mail, let them know you are here when she is ready. She won't forget you then, and i bet you are the first person she reaches out to.

Look her up in the phone book or (better yet!) on the Internet under white pages. It lists everyone in the house, and age ranges. So, it will have her.

Showbarnmom, I saw your post on the EE thread and think your little one is hard to sex. The comb and lack of wattles looks like a pullet, but I've never seen that coloring, especially with the large white wing patches, turn out to be anything other than a cockerel. It will be interesting to see what s/he is.

jchny, I will be expecting lots of pictures of all your new additions and hatching chicks.

Animallover, so sorry to hear about your friend's bad experiences. If you can leave her a supportive message, she will know you are her friend, and hopefully will get in touch when she's able. I don't understand why people are cruel, but I think they definitely don't have enough to do in their lives and it is a sick form of entertainment. Nothing new unfortunately. An idle mind is the devil's playground is a very old saying. Nowadays, social media sites like Facebook can be a tool for the bully. I won't let my kids do Facebook or have cell phones partly for this reason (other reasons too!). They think I'm the meanest mom in the world! I tell them I'm working really hard to earn this honor.

MC, when you say CA is the worst for truckers (I can believe it!)) what kinds of things happen that are so bad? I don't know much about the trucking world.

Cheeka, glad you didn't get as much snow as they were predicting. Your hoop coops are really doing the job!


Mustacheio has his first 4H meeting tonight. Luckily they meet just down the road at the grange hall. 5 minute round trip is much better than the 60 min round trip when he did 4H a few years ago. There is no poultry leader for the club, so that will be my job if he decides to go through with his mini chicken breeding scheme. I'll have a lot to learn!

SIX.......Today We Laid SIX Eggs. Trust Us....PIE Matters

howdy howdy howdy... today was one of the longest days I've had in quite some time! the office in Prattsville that was closed on Saturday had a major slow down for today. because they are still digging out downstate, their mail was held up for hours. it didn't arrive until a bit past noon. that's over 4 hours late, and it was a huge amount of mail. so after finishing my route, I sped over there to help. I took out the morning half, and the reg carrier took out the afternoon half. we didn't get on the road until quarter of 2, but we both made it back before the truck came to pick up the outgoing... there was so much 3rd class mail to sort after we got back, but it's all done and I was home by 7. after getting fresh water and feeding the gang, the cats, the dog, the chicks and Peach, scooping cat poop sapped the last of my energy. I had venison tenderloin already cooked in the fridge, meant for a nice sandwich... but it became a hunk of meat on a fork. it was sooooo good... I marinated it in Worcestershire sauce and grape juice, cooked with a butter baste to perfect rare... so lazy of me to just stab it and eat like a barbarian.

I have no clue how many eggs I have waiting outside. there weren't any this morning, and I just do not want to pull on shoes to go check. it was 40* and sunny after the morning freezing rain. lots melted. would have been nice to have the gang outside. I'm hoping tomorrow won't have any snafu's to getting home early. I will get the portable run filled with fresh bedding and all the gear to move the chicks in. it's supposed to be really nice all week which should give them time to become accustomed to colder nights. they are fully feathered, and it's time. it's not supposed to go below freezing at night for the next week.

I'm off! the dog has to wee, so I will check for eggs and report in the morning!!

My new incubators came today. Little giant 9200 with turner and fan. X2 Trying the first one out, set the 9 freshest and unrefrigerated eggs in that i had been turning and saving on the counter. They seem to hold temp a lot better than some have said so we will see. This is my first ever attempt hatching.

Really nervous about it but I ordered coronation Sussex eggs anyways

The wine and booze tasting thing was always a big hit with my dad. he likes the beer one with the clydesdales the most! Thats why we went, to see the massive beautiful horses. Oh and Gramma would look for the dark german beer, what a stinker!

Let me get this straight. You bought TWO incubators, put 17 eggs in the first one and bought more eggs? The first step to recovery is admitting you are powerless over chickens.

nope I set 9, then added the 4 fresh eggs i got that next morning. Soo theres 13 in there now. Also got a few BC Maran and some Ameraucana eggs so now have 16 eggs shipping to me... But, but, but I don't wanna recover! I am just now getting addicted

AWESOME having 4H so close. I really enjoyed it when my oldest was in it.

I finally caught them roosting!!!! To bad they still haven't excepted the new girls yet. However, Mo, the BR, is taking treats from my hand!!!! I'm so ready for eggs! I also found a new home for my game mixes where they can free range.
