Cheeka, I am glad you didn't toss them too! And don't forget that 21 is not set in stone! Babies come when they are ready! My poor mother was pregnant for six of us for 44-46 weeks. Her body just did not want to form us as fast as it should have! Can't say it was the Dr doing bad math. We were all born in different hospitals in 4 different states!
Everyone looks good this morning. Thank you all for the reassurance. I didn't have to "wait it out" for my new flock. I had an EE egg this morning! It was even where I could reach it!

I really need to put the coop on a table or find more cinder blocks!! I also need another door or two.
Now if I could just get Midnight to lay! She is my Ameraucana. I also have Cadbury, another EE. If she has lived this long, she should be giving me some eggs! So I am waiting for Midnight, Cadbury, a BCM and an EE. I am still deciding on names for the new gang members. They will be staying, so they get names.
What color is this egg? It is SUPPOSED to be blue. I must say that if the girls both lay green I will not be upset. I went back for them because I wanted to make green egg layers... And because chicken math is addictive.

The new coop, minus paint. I am thinking black and orange with a H-D bar and shield on it. There is a nest box in the back. Let's see if they use it! I plan on baiting it this afternoon.

good morning! isn't Si quite the boy? he's definitely trying to keep them corralled, as the other chickens were nearby... and he wants them safe (and he wants them all for himself...lol) a couple of pecks and he still was so gentle, and protective... I love his dancing too. W4W, the little white gal sure does stand out, but she is always at the front, always the first to look, but not always the first to "try". the beardless red is the first to try stuff... but yeah... little white is a dominant bird.

AND, I am so glad I checked my posts yesterday... I put the eggs under Peach 2 weeks 5 days ago. so the first egg is 2 days older than that, glad I didn't throw them out a week before they were due to hatch! I never wrote it down outside of here, and lost track of time. so perhaps I will have little peeps this weekend!

Red's Ode to the Ladies

I’m rooster the Red, love has gone to my head. I see ladies wherever I turn.
I love them all, the short and the tall. If she’s feathered, I never will spurn.

Guinea, chicken, and duck, oh I am in luck, for all have a fluffy, plump tail.
In the yard or the coop, use a ladder or stoop, I’m determined that I will not fail.

For the mission I’m on, beginning at dawn, is to love every lady I find.
I will strut, dance and woo, and after I do, I will love her, no matter her kind.

It’s a matter of pride, and I cannot abide the thought that I ever could fail.
My job I must do. It’s enjoyable too, and all part of being a male.

A new girl on the farm? I must share my charm. She’ll be lonely, in need of a friend.
Who's that I see? An enormous turkey…. It’s happened. This may be the end.

She’s as big as a house! And she has a spouse. A great tom who is 10 times my size.
So I think on this day, though it pains me to say, on my mission, I must compromise.

My second GREEN egg
My 2 Marans eggs ... 4 of those eggs (both Marans) broke when I fell climbing the icy hill. The first EE egg was broken too. That snow and ice is slippery!!!

nice job MC, I think, if you have any doubts... that a couple of 2x4's as legs at the front (from the coop to the ground) will give you all the stabilizing you need. the table is a good enough size, legs would only give you more "peace of mind" during high winds.
and I figured that 21 days was the minimum... she is doing so well, I spent a while with her this afternoon, scratchin' her lil head. she likes it.

it's so saturated outside. we got 7 inches of snow a couple of days ago, heavy, wet stuff... it's been snowing everyday since, and melting as it's been close to 40*. the portable run is pretty damp around the edges and there was a big puddle on one side of the roof, so I pushed up from the inside to get rid of it... scared the peeps with the rush of the water over the edge. it was getting dark, so I didn't try to get more pictures.

4 eggs, then I broke one, cuz it's slippery here too... so 3 for me.

JCH, you can def pick up your eggs at your PO, and you can also get the info for the future... of the General Mail Facility where your mail starts it's journey in your area. here's the best tip I can give you for shipping eggs and birds... use the GMF address as your shipping address. this way, your parcel can go no further. (this tip was given to me by an Express Supervisor at the GMF, so it's legit...and not just cuz I work there, lots of people do it) this saves the parcel from further truck rides, that could be many miles... before it arrives at your local office. the only reason to not do this, is if your GMF is too far (in your opinion) to travel too. the furthest in our area is about 90 miles, one way. that's a hike, but it's also a hike that I would rather save my chicks from bouncing along in a big cold truck. I only live about 27 miles from my GMF if you go over the mountain... 45 miles if you drive around it... these parcels are almost always express pieces and you can get the express desk phone #'s... but you have to get them from your post office, this info is very difficult to get online. I have no idea why... maybe I should create a database.
