Haha! I was going to say that the wee ones look ready to start laying soon. Poor Betty is looking forward to it as well. Having some mature girls around will take some of the pressure off her-- strength in numbers and all that. She must be a favorite of one of the guys.
Speaking of guys, that tiny little frizzball (aka Hurricane Donut) is still crowing!!!He's not even completely feathered yet. Probably around 5 weeks or so. Wish you could hear it. Sounds like someone is opening a squeaky window. Very funny. Hopefully he won't get much louder. Certainly not as bad as the cockateil!![]()
Quote: I am seeing that feather growth on some of my hatched chicks too. Its like the shaft isn't opening up enough when you look at the base of the feathers. Especially my BR/GLW crosses. (They all look like BR as they feather out.Ugh I am doomed) I am watching to see if the "bad hair thing" is something they will grow out of. Its really cute tho, makes them so fluffed up!![]()
Someone also mentioned that it might be a problem with not getting enough sunlight. Might be more of a problem with winter babies under heat lamps or something. I will definitely supplement with some extra protein, especially during the first molt. When is the first molt, anyway? Spot was the only one that had a noticeable molt. Around 7 months? The others lost gradually.I am seeing that feather growth on some of my hatched chicks too. Its like the shaft isn't opening up enough when you look at the base of the feathers. Love the chicken and goose pics you guys. Starting to look a little like spring. So wonderful to see the older birds accepting the new babies. Paddy is utterly spoiled, isn't s/he? Tiring few minutes!!!![]()
Quote: I am thinking that too, so I started the oldest chicks ranging with the LOs today, I have a 6 ft high dog run that's tight I put babies in to run. My wyandottes molted last oct., born in apr. yep 7 months on the nose!
