She was in that box since last Thursday when I left. She is in it now. I'm like you I thought it was another "fake broody act" that she has been known to do. But I think this is real. When she don't get up for scratch you know something is going on.

I think the shipping is hard on them, i had one doa and one die a few hours in. I hope everyone else stays healthy. Watch for pasty butts and keep an eye to make sure everyone is eating and drinking. It sounds like you love them already. Enjoy this time and take tons of pictures....it flies by so quickly and they get big so fast.
The weak one died, sadly. He wouldn't eat or drink.

OK, good luck with the idea of her raising babies....you think it's bad with one ...if she gets her chance she will have every baby chick screeching for pie within a week. Soon you will find chicks sleeping on the poop board and all kinds of trouble.
AL, the chicks are so adorable! I'm sorry to hear about the little one that didn't make it... happened to me too, I feel your pain. I think it's better for them to slip away rather than be sickly and die after weeks of not being able to keep up... so sad... but you have lots of peeping fluffballs to care for! thanks Sally, for the kudos... I love my job, especially when it comes to chick season, and parcels, I love parcels... I like bringing people the stuff they are excited to get! (I hate tax bill time, I feel bad...) JCH, Bo is so cool! mmmmmmmmmmm cheeeeeeeese, gotta get that doe! Goat meat is a little stronger than venison, but quite good when prepared properly, I think you'll like it if you ever do try it. I like goats too, but no fencing here either. my day... unreal... long route, no biggie... lots of mail... okay, still no biggie... then my Air Bag light came on on my dash. thought that was no biggie too... maybe it would turn off, or I would get it reset after work. BIG MISTAKE! after about an hour, the air bag blew off with a BANG! choking stinky white powder everywhere and my horn started blowing non stop! it took me 20 minutes to find and pull the fuse (it was under the hood) by then I was half deaf... but I got it to shut off, and finished on time... now I have to pay big bucks to get it fixed, and in the meantime, I have no horn, no auto door locks, no trunk release and no air bag as they all operate off the same fuse. what's most important about this is for everyone else. I sit in the center of the car when I deliver the mail. I drive with my left hand and my left foot. if I had been sitting in the drivers seat, I would have taken the blast in my face. I would have been hurt, and possibly had an accident. as it was, my left hand took the blast. so learn from my mistake... and take that "idiot" light seriously! 4 eggs so far, a few went to the nest after a little free range early this evening. it was so pleasant, 58*, sunny... 2 pullet eggs, 1 Peach, and 1 BR . ooh these pics actually loaded! I will try my chicken pics in a little while, I need to make some supper!
Glad your okay. Sorry about the car.

Cheeka, so glad you are okay. Those air bags can be downright dangerous. Wearing glasses as we do, it is never a pleasant thought to get hit in the face. Check for recalls on your car.

AL, no more pics for us? Share the cuteness!!!

Kian, congrats on getting a broodybator. It's so nice to let the mommas do all the work!

MISS BROODY TOO....HAS HER WAY

Well, at least this one will never let your life get boring! While I love the idea of snapping turtle eggs

, I think it might be a good idea to give her 3 or 4 eggs to set (some of your extras). Can you imagine how much trouble she will cause if she takes it into her head to steal chicks? If she quits the nest, the eggs can go back under the BO. They'll hatch at the same time, which is good, and maybe they will tend the chicks together. The only problem might arise if you have to separate the moms/chicks from the rest of the group if anyone is overly mean. You also need to give the chicks a different food than the hens (no extra calcium that's in the layer feed). So if you can figure out the logistics, why not let Broody Too have the thrill of her little chicken life?!

my car is an '98 Olds 88 who knows what the heck happened with the sensor, but dang it was scary. at first, I didn't realize it was the air bag, honestly, it's hill billy country, I didn't know if I had gotten shot by some stray hunter... my hand was on fire... but it's fine now, and the car still runs, just no horn and the air bag is gone... but I have my enormous truck as backup. it's a gas hog, and kinda hard to deliver in because it's so wide, but it'll get the job done.

I'm up way too late! g'nite! pics one of these days...

So I was putting the Serama chicks away tonight, and the little roo finally acted on his amorous intentions. Jumped on poor Coffee, grabbed her by the head feathers, but she wasn't interested. Fortunately, he took the rejection like a gentleman, so she was not too upset. Thing is, they are barely 2 months old! Isn't 8 weeks pretty young for a cockerel to start all that? He's been crowing for about 3 weeks now, getting hackle and saddle feathers, maturing so quickly. The pullet is just starting to get tiny wattles; her comb is a bit bigger, but very pale, so poor Donut is going to have to be patient for a while yet. They are still so tiny too- kind of like small grapefruits with a tails!

Here's Loverboy!

Oooo, big scary tennis ball!

These pics are a few weeks old. I have to take some new ones.
