Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

good luck on the hatches MC and OK, cheeka, AWESOME videos, they are beautiful!
Guys, I use a sharpie, the pencils were a real pain. Waterfowl eggs especially since you mist them daily.
I use a fine point, works great.

Good to hear. I couldn't find pencil marks on any of them. The ones I gave Roger I scribbled all over them with a pencil. Wasn't sure about the Sharpie when I did. Roger thought it was cool. Looks like graffiti and that's right up her alley.

Wow...17 eggs. I remember wondering if you were going to ever get your first egg. Saturday is the big day here. Why?......because it was one year ago Saturday that I got my first chickens. Remember it well because the first Saturday in May in Kentucky is "Derby Day". And also the broodys should hatch the eggs on.... Saturday. So once again on the first Saturday in May (i hope) to get chickens again. None of it planned that way thats how it all worked out.
Some things are meant to be! Might have to rename the day OKs Chicken Day!

Had some family friends who lived in Derby, England but they pronounced it "Darby." Also made fun of me because I drank "wadder"!

They drank "wahter."

Just in time for Mother's Day. You do realize Roger will be expecting a derby hat .

Construction on the town home has begun....I have located four people for eggs for the future. I decided to get eggs in June around Father's Day. I have exciting (to me) news. My husband is coming home for good. He just accepted a new job which will allow him to come home every night and stop traveling. He will be working around twenty minutes from home, but six days a week. We are happy because it will give us more family time. I was really worried that my daughter wasn't going to bond with him . Luckily she is in love with him and has wrapped him around her finger. This means the shed remodel might actually get accomplished and the girls might move out of the new shed eventually. Although they really like the new shed. Last night they broke out of their coop and decided to roost on top. It was safe only because it is behind shed doors as well. It teaches me that I need to latch that door every night if they move outside. Yesterday two of my hens decided to hang out with the cat, by the time I got the camera the cat had left. Oh and apparently if the back patio door is open, the chickens think they should come inside the house for treats.

Have a nice week.

I am really happy for you. On all counts! The funny stuff and the DH stuff!

Thank You :)

I stalked the girls today...my white layer is indeed Tommy Sophia...and she apparently likes to be private about laying. If I watch her she wont lay. Now I am wondering about this one girl I have who is supposed to be an ancona....laying a white egg....I only get one white egg every once in awhile....and it appears to be Tommy's. So now I have to figure out why Mary doesn't lay. Someone else on here told me she might be a different breed ....urgh hatchery chicks are frustrating this way. I keep wondering if Mary is really a boy...but no crowing.

Today sucks outside. Rainy and cold. My dog is jealous of the yard time the girls get and is refusing to come back in the house today. So tonight will be bath time for the wet dog.

Great news about your hubs! We were considering the looooong distance commute and weekend dad thing, which sucks! Luckily my hubs found a good position near home, with only occasional travel.

I looked at your pics and to me you have what looks like an Ancona girl. Looks the same as my neighbor's 2, which are egg laying machines. Maybe Mary's sorting out her springtime hormones, or maybe she's just really good at hiding them. How old? My very dominant Leghorn quit laying for about 2 weeks while deciding whether or not she wanted a gender change. Fortunately she chose to be a hen,is back laying regularly, and has stopped mounting the other hens. Have a few head feathers to regrow!

Also, what is the pretty splash (?) in your avatar? Is that Tommy Sophia the white layer? Love the blue legs!

I wouldn't mind a bit of your rain. We are supposed to be in the upper 80s all week. Too hot for me and not yet May!!
