Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I am too intoxicated to read. I had a pip before noon (day 20) and it is about 1/4 the way out now. I hope to sleep instead of worrying all night.

Bahanahaha that is going to be my husband ...either he will be drinking or forcing me to drink when we hatch eggs, which I am planning to do. Up until last night he thought OK was having human children or grandchildren ...then I showed him Rogers mama pic, he was like "your checking five times a day to see if chicks hatched from someone else's hen?" "Yup" ...head shake and a smile from him. I think the mixed media posting isn't working for me. I posted last night how the BO looks like she's flattened like a pancake and will never let you see her babies. I bet there are at least two under her already.

Anyone have a game camera? Recommendations for brands?

I feel terrible! I drowned a chick! I knew better. I did have my reasons for leaving the water in there. Bottom line, it is dead.
So three hatched in 4 hours each. The first one to start isn't quite ready yet. It pipped, and began to zip. I saw yellow. I did see it breathing an hour ago.

Thanks guys. I will give a bit of mineral oil this morning for safe measures. I have grit mixed in with the grumble. I have big hopes since she ate on her own last night.

So, since I don't have enough chicken issues lol. My game banty flew out of the run this morning. *sigh* 6ft tall run. Silly chicken. So I went a head and opened their gate and let everyone out. I have a bunch of chickens that are very chicken. Lol. My RIR had to be picked up and brought out.

My question : for those who free range as a treat, how do you get them back in their run during the day? Treats?

Yes! Treats are the thing. I call my chickens when I give them scratch or oats or cabbage or whatever, and so they know "Here chick-chick!" means FOOOOD and will come running from all parts of the yard.

K I will try that. Hopefully I can get them back in lol. I haven't encouraged free range because of our dogs. But my pointer completely ignored them and was laying in the middle of the grass patch they are pecking in lol.

If they won't come when you call, you could pull out the big guns.... bread! Call them and leave a very sparse trail, just a few crumbs. They'll scramble for bits and follow you hoping for more, and when you get to the coop, toss in a big handful. They'll clog the door trying to get in!

Well, I went out with some veggies and scratch, and 3 of the 4 were back in the run already lol. Had to chase the RIR, I swear she isn't too bright. But my BR came to the door and red followed her in. Lol.

My younger son is excited by Roger's chick, but the others think we're a little loopy.

Oh, so sad. All that waiting too. Why are they so attracted to the bottom of the water dish? Trying to get back in the egg? Trying to join their reflection? Don't understand it.
