Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Omg I am waiting for these pics...showed my hubby Roger...he smiled.....I need to find some Serama chicks at the upcoming fair. I ordered two or three faverolles from a man...he didn't have Mille fleur duccles yet....I hope BO is okay, can't wait to see pics. Jc needs a camera and OK and roger need a video camera web channel.

Watching the voice and waiting on BO pictures.

Cheeka, what do the soft shells you get look like? I kinda want to see one. The new girls had one egg that was smashed on the ground with no yolk. Never seen a soft shell.

Pretty eggs!

OK!! So excited for you! (ugh about the poop though) and MC!! You too!!

All this is making me sooooooooo antsy for our hatch day!

I've got another one wanting to go broody. She didn't lay today and even after I dunked her in the pool (just the lower half) she ran back into the empty nest. I may set her up on a milk crate tomorrow, though two batches of chicks would be cute. Problem is, if she stays broody, then I'll only have 4 layers and that's not enough!

Okay, so 4 eggs hatched, 3 chicks in the brooder (one drowned, remember?) and I decided to candle and do eggtopsies.
2 chicks looked like they would have hatched tonight or tomorrow. They were shrink wrapped, and dead. An EE is still moving. I don't see an internal pip. No noise. One BCM was too full to see anything. SHE upset me. 100% ready, she never made it out. The last BCM was not moving when I candled, but alive when I was opening. She is wrapped in a wet paper towel. I am hoping she makes it through.
The rest were dead and about 80-90% formed.
New eggs coming tomorrow or Friday. BCM, Ameraucana, Cuckoo Marans, and ... I forget. I think blue Marans, maybe some splashes. I will do better this time.
Except ... Shipped eggs are iffy. My PO is irresponsible.

I feel your pain, my first shipped were coronation sussex, out of 12, 1 survived to hatch. my BCMs were 8 out of 13, so I think it really depends on the breeders shipping methods.

sending good vibes for the next round!

MC, so sad when they quit late like that. Seems like even more of a waste. I hope your last chick makes it okay, she needs to replace the drowning victim. Some folks were discussing low hatch rates for BCM and one comment was about how thick the shells are. Have you noticed that with yours?

Trimming wild lantana. Can I give it to the girls?
Don't know for sure, so I wouldn't try it. When they don't free range consistently, they are more likely to eat what you give them rather than avoiding the bad stuff.
