Cheeka, that's a great idea about the flea collar in the vacuum bag. I don't want DE in the house because I don't want to inhale it, but I do use it around the coop and in the nest boxes.

you are all so awesome!!! congrats everyone!
sorry havent posted, been keeping up but barely read before I doze off.
On the DE I tried, it seemed to help but not solve it. We had them very bad last year when my DD bought a stray in...
She still has the cat, but I was NOT happy. The garden sevin dust will work, but not if you have fish, it will harm them.
My oscars are almost 2 and they are as precious as my birds (almost) gonna try the flea collar trick tho!

Hey, Cheeka (and the rest of you, too) I need an opinion! In my house I have rugs on top of rugs on top of rugs ... DH's aunt is a loon. What can I say?
In the living room there is a green carpet on top of a rug on top of a smaller carpet pad on top of another smaller rug on top of a wood floor. I have hated this green carpet, but when the fish tank leaked about 10 gallons of water last week.... The mess goes all the way down. So it is time to do something! Here are 2 pictures to help you help me decide how far down to go. To the wood or to the rug under the carpet. So far I have 75% of the green carpet rolled up, and the rug underneath is okay, though there are a few areas where it is showing some wear. Please ignore my ugly foot ... And the green nail polish.

Mc I. Never used the de in the house. I know someone who uses it as a border around the inside and outside of her house. She operates a foster home for dogs and cats out of her house so she uses it as a protective barrier rather than treatment and swears by it. I only use it in the coop and shed . The wood floor looks beautiful....I couldn't hide it but I am one of those people not fond of carpets or rugs.

OK congrats on a great thread!

I checked his tummy earlier today, and there was no sign of flea dirt. Maybe it was just a few fresh ones from outside that hadn't died yet.
I am going to go cut the rugs around the fish tank, and strip down to the bare floor. I wish I had help with the furniture! Oh well. Off I go! Thanks for the opinions!

MC, I prefer the wood floor too. So much easier to keep clean and flea free. They can be cold in the winter, though. You are lucky if the carpets come right up. When we bought our current house years ago we thought we'd replace the nasty carpet near the fireplace. Pullet it up to find another, even nastier carpet underneath that was glued to the floor!

Ended up cutting and prying up the subflooring (along with carpet glued to vinyl tiles glued to the floor), and installing a formica type flooring. What was supposed to be a quick half day job ended up taking over a week.
