Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

MC-That must have been a sight! Chickens on the motorcycle! I glad the chicks I was interested in came up early. I don't think I could have stayed until the end! I don't know what I am going to do with my three extra roos, and any other roos that show up with the 20 babies I just got! I can't eat them. I need to find someone that won't tell me if they will eat them

Chicken math strikes again!!
I know what you mean about the conditions. My 2 didn't even have water. There was no room! The EE was fortunate enough to be able to run under the other chicken's legs. I only bought the two because I wanted the others to have more room. They were the first two chickens (of 18) to ride the motorcycle.
I like that one. "I bought the chickens so the others would have more room" .....so if they have 500 of them crammed in a cage at Tractor Supply how many should I buy to make enough room for the ones left?

Hi everyone! Thought I'd check in and say a quick howdy because we've been so busy buying Seramas! Got 4 pullets maybe 8-10 weeks old. Genius me forgot to ask. Will post pics when I can.

MC, the "after" pic of the bathroom floor was such an improvement. Definitely worth all your hard work.

Ok, you only need to buy fifty in that case.
W4W, Thank you. I really want to go after the kitchen carpet, but I should be doing dishes, laundry and vacuuming! Besides, I am now thinking I should let my husband help with that room.

RR, it's coming! anytime now... you should be seeing squatting behavior when you get close to them ~ have you tried any of the tricks like a fake egg or a golf ball in the nest yet? it might encourage them to lay...

12 Eggs today, 2 dozen sold unexpectedly when my knuckleheaded cousin popped over with 2 guys I've never met... that is a major no-no... I don't like it when anyone comes over without calling, and I do not ever let anyone in the house that I do not know. don't care if he vouched for them... we hung out in the yard with the chickens til I'd had enough...

and sent them on their way.

watching Harry Potter and the SS tonight, just love that movie... 3 ears of corn and big fat red seedless grapes to munch on

@Cheeka...all of the above, pie...and even the Mississippi version of pie...cornbread w/red peppers! Nothing. I even kept the cooped up for a few days to be sure they weren't laying off in the woods anywhere. We have had a few hot days, but nothing crazy, and a few traumatic events...our dog broke his chain, jumped the pen and killed my beta roo and someone at the vet across the highway lost control of her husky and he ended up on our yard. Luckily, he was pretty tuckered out by the time he saw the birds, otherwise I am sure he would have gotten more than a taste of SLW feathers and Fran's Feet of Fury. I know that roled them up and can cause a delay...but sheesh...not even signs! Kids and dh say leave it to me to get broken chickens...then I remind dh that 11 of them are on his head, lol. I REALLY hated to buy that box of 5 doz eggs today....rawr

well... delays delays... just means that they will lay that much longer as they age... I've heard start dates of all ages, including 11 months, although I think I would go crazy waiting that long. one of my friends has a bird, she's 15 months old now, started laying at 32 weeks, which was the start of Winter, 3 or 4 eggs later and she quit cold for the entire winter season. she's the only EE of their flock, so it's noticeable when there is no green egg. then she started again in Spring, but only laid about 3 eggs a week, and she's already acting like she's ready to quit for the year. it drives my friend crazy, but I remind her that when "Cheetah" is 5+, she will probably still lay as many as those 3 eggs a week, whereas the rest of her flock will have hit "henopause" long before.
So, keep hanging in there, guaranteed now that you've gone and bought FIVE dozen eggs... one of them will lay a perfect little pullet egg (tomorrow).
