Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Peach's last group of chicks still adore her and are very doting while she continues to sit. I'm quite amazed... they were hatched in an incubator, didn't know a Broody Mama until they were 3 weeks old. she reared them for about 6 weeks, and even spent that up time from the nest with them, dust bathing... they are her sentry, they protect her fiercely... and keep her company ~ the door will be open for free ranging, yet they stay, laying around her at the opening of her kennel. they tend to stand up and go "on guard" even when I approach, so I haven't gotten that "Kodak Moment" but I will! they are getting pretty big, nearly as big as she is, just narrower...not sure how they will behave when (if) chicks hatch... I can separate them if I have to

I swear I can't catch a break! Yes, the bathroom floor (kinda) went my way. And I am VERY happy with the linoleum! But the toilet seat has been broken for two weeks, and finally came all the way off a few days ago. It is one of those things. My DH (you know, that really doesn't stand for dear husband for me) breaks something, swears he will take care of it the next week when he gets home (anyone remember no shower for over a week?) but doesn't. So, I got a new seat Friday, and went to put it on.

The old screw is rusted on, and I swear I have used half a can of WD40 to no avail.
So, anyone have any tips for getting the old screws off?
BTW, I went to tear up the kitchen carpet, but didn't. It is attached to the dining room carpet, and seems to be actually sealed down. maybe even glued. There might be linoleum underneath, though. DH remembers when he was a boy, his dog went sliding across the room, and thinks it was on linoleum.

@OK, we go through 5 doz in about 10 days...6 ppl in the house (Baby Girl is moving in to the dorms Monday, but 3 brothers will eat her share) I used almost 2doz just on Sunday morning...~60 pancakes and an average of 2 eggs a piece. That was the winning point in my argument that chickens would be awesome. Hubs keeps hinting that they would make awesome chicken enchiladas. ..

W4W, I speak for all of us... WE WANT PICTURES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

can't wait to see the little darlin's!
We haven't even had time to take pictures yet. Our house guest due next weekend had a change of plans and arrived yesterday (Friday). Hopefully I can get some tomorrow.

Let us see pictures of the little crumb snatchers W4W. I gave mine to Big Broody
Keep your pants on Roger. I'm working on it.

Hacksaw? Drill it out? Brute force and lots swearing?

MC, with the amount of hours that have passed for that WD-40 saturated screw... did it loosen yet? I have those chisel style screwdriver bits for stripped screws, but they don't always work unless I hammer it deep, which on a porcelain toilet, might be a bad idea. W4W's hacksaw idea is a good one, if you can slide the blade under the head.

AL, that's a bummer for the squished chick. best to go over their area with a fine toothed comb to figure out how it got out and seal the whole area so it doesn't happen to another one.

W4W,

hope you enjoy your company, but snap lots of pics anyway, you can post later, just don't miss the cuteness of every day... they change so quickly...

I cannot believe how late I slept this morning! 9:40 am! when I woke up, I thought, must be 7:30... OMG GET UP! I thought I would be met with indignation, but the flock was relaxing, some perched, some comfy in the dome's large dust bath. the Perma-Wee boys were still roosting as were Peachy's babes. it was the Bachelor Pen residents making the most ruckus. they probably expected to have been let out hours before... but it had rained either overnight, or sometime this morning... it's not raining now, but it's not nice out. overcast, chilly... "fox" weather, so no one will be free ranging unless it clears up. bummer really, I have the day off to spend with them, and take pics...

so last week I was on the hunt for higher protein food for the birds who are still molting or never regrew feathers since I separated the boys... the kitten food with it's 40% crude protein, mixed with BOSS, and game bird pellets and occasionally some liver is awesome! I cannot get over all the new sprouts on everyone! Blu has the most drastic improvement - almost no skin is visible this morning! yesterday, I went on a mission to find the best price and the biggest bag of kitten food... turns out the crummy Dollar General that we got in exchange for the destroyed Grocery store (ty (not) hurricane Irene) has the best price by over a dollar a bag! even Wal Mart is more expensive. so I cleaned them out and because I spent over $25, I got to use my coupon to save an additional $5. that Dollar General actually has a few good deals. the frozen tubes of hamburger they sell is the same brand that is available at the market (1 of many...) so it's a limited selection at the dollar store, but it's also 80 cents cheaper per pound. they have my preferred coffee creamer, 70 cents cheaper than everywhere else...
