Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

A hen sitting on eggs in a nest box with two Golden Comets laying eggs on top of her is a pretty good sign that she might be broody.

Yes, we are!
But you have joined this thread, so ....
Quote: Another con job to see if she can get off of the "meat bird" list. Seven straight weeks of being #1 on the list has her a little worried. (moving the grill next to the coop helped) Looks like tonight she is going to play the "good mommy" card.
Heck, I have an outdoor oven about three feet away from the coop! I have even had girls run into it.
I hope it does, I love that little chick.
I had a chick go missing for three days last year. She was about three weeks old. There were twenty some cats running around. We were even riding the motorcycle through the grass! She turned up outside the layer's run.
You forgot to mention her love affair with pie. The things she does to get it....her love for it.
I am about to head for bed. Still up in the air about the incubator. I wish I had someone close with a broody. I still want to see a mama out walking with her little chicks one day.

Al, hope you find the lil one.

Justlil welcome to the group. Enjoy the read one night when you can't sleep, but you might as well jump right in. How many chickens do you have? Breed? Are you waiting for eggs?

Lol reading the poems always makes me think you guys should do a little chicken poem book. "Rogers bedtime tales for chickens"
Ha ha! Good idea! Except that I wouldn't want my girls to think it was okay to act like that!

My internet is finally back! What a long week without it! On Thursday all 4 Leghorns laid. It kinda looked like it was the 4th's first time. Also, I don't know if I posted that the bantam Cochin began laying a few days ago! Now what am I supposed to do with those eggs?
So far today I have gotten three nice brown eggs. One in the run (a first) one in the box, and one on the floor. I am so happy because they are all large/jumbo brown brown eggs. Like a RIR brown. Who knows? Maybe I have some other new layers?
Hope all is well for everyone. And stop losing chickens!!

I blow the eggs...I actually have a project started that I might do with them for my sisters wedding...who knows if I will find time to blow 300 eggs though lol .

Looks like rain here today. Broody was in the box this morning. No one in the townhouse is laying. I am kind of surprised. Someone is molting though. I need to trim back Tianna's beak this week sometime.

MC, I have a half dozen egg carton that is specifically for Peachy's eggs. when she isn't broody... she lays the most beautiful small green eggs, and those are for ME. the box is labelled "Peach Eggs Do Not Take". when I have 4, I cook them... 4 is close enough to 2 LF eggs... her eggs are unbelievable... the yolks are huge for the size of the egg... she's the same, bantam Cochin... with a little EE mixed in... which is why she lays a green egg instead of brown or white. I'm super stoked about having the new bantam boys. while I am not sure what the 2 feather footed boys truly are, either Cochin or D'Uccle, they have such similar features to Peach, the chicks would be beautiful, and the RIR bantams would also make for a nice pairing...

Peachy's egg box was initially marked to keep old BH from taking them home for himself or family/friends. they are so small... I think people would be puzzled by them. and speaking frankly, they were too good for him...

the sun is high, the sky is blue, the clouds are super puffy... the wind is whipping about 60 mph, the howling noise it's making as it bends around the trees, the house, the whole mountain... is so terrifying that after about 5 minutes of free range, they all went back to the dome - after being quite sure that I had everyone, I locked the door! the Perma Wee boys are in the dome too, so far so good... they have taken over the front right side roost during free range, and they are comfortable there now. I brought treats out to them so the day would not be a bummer, and the normal piranha-like stampede didn't happen. not only were they polite... they shared, and waited for their turn. I'm very confused.

oh yeah! been meaning to report: Olive is no longer limping. it cleared up 2 days ago.

12 Eggs, I will make one more egg run around 7... but they might be finished for the day.
