Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

oh what a sad morning.  we're gettin' ready, and Mylee is chattering away about going home on the long long road.  and she keeps saying "don't worry Omi, I'll be back tomorrow"  she will be back at least one more time, to help me make the big move or just to visit bc the house hasn't sold yet... but it will be at least a couple of months.  I am so lucky, this visit was almost 7 weeks...  as much as I spoil her, she spoils me... she fed the dogs, cats, chickens, collected eggs, helped me dig... helped make my coffee and all the food we cooked... helped clip Chester to his leash and outside run... and countless other kindnesses that I will sorely miss.

Hugs!

It is a dreary day in my neck of the woods. I didn't let anyone out of the coop this morning. I just had a funny feeling when I went down to feed them so I didn't even open up their door. They are not happy campers about it though... guess I will have to take them a really big PIE in a little bit. I am leaning toward some corn bread with raw oatmeal and raisins. I may even scramble a couple of eggs to put on there too. Am I forgetting anything? Lol

Anyway it just wasn't worth losing any more of them. They can stay inside today and not get rained on. I did grab some weeds and throw in there for them already.

lindz, I agree, it's not worth losing anyone, better safe than sorry, they'll deal with it... especially with the weeds to play with and Pie to look forward to... it's really nice out here today, I let the boys out in the morning, they haven't had much free time since Mylee's been here, she's afraid of a couple of them... so it was just better for them to stay in their pen. I have the girls out now, but I'm making a Pie with Ramen noodles to lure them back in at 4ish. I had a mess of chores to do today, got them all done in record time, the house is ready (mostly) for photos. there's still clutter here and there, but hey... I still live here, so, tough.

I got the chain link panel last night, now to decide how to install it. I have 3 panels that I could just remove and replace with that one, or I could add it, make a triangle area, so it's larger... I think I'm going with that idea. handyman will come up tomorrow to help me finish thinking it out and get it done. I could do it myself, but... he offered, and it sure will make it easier to do with extra hands...

I have 6 Eggs already, hope that's not all for the day, but if it is... it's about the average lately...

Lovely day here. Starting to feel a bit autumn-ey. Wish we could have a little of the rain that most everyone else got this summer. It's parched around here. Can't wait for a little green on the ground instead of crunchy brown.

We only got 2 eggs yesterday. I have high expectations for today.

More virtual hugs, Cheeka. At least you have all your critters to keep you busy and loads of great memories. Mylee seems a natural born farm girl. Just wait until she wants a horse.

she's been asking me for a horse since April... after the big fair this August, where she saw all kinds and fell in love with Percheron's.... that's when the stick horse became a daily activity. all she had for weeks were walking sticks, til her Grammy found stick horses at the Dollar General... Mylee got a unicorn and her little friend got a dragon. the heads are really cute, but she did just fine before... with just a stick and her imagination... maybe someday I'll get another horse. I sold my Paso Fino. she's in a good place, ridden regularly... she is way too much horse for Mylee - Veronica is only 13 hands but she is a very high spirited horse who doesn't actually like to walk. she prefers to canter - even bareback on a 10' lead, she'll canter in circles... dizzying.

More hugs to you, Cheeka! You will have all these new memories, as you go about your daily routine, of where Mylee helped with this or did that while she was staying with you. I can't wait until we start seeing your prospective new houses when you start looking! Lots of land and a room for Mylee when she visits! Make sure you have room for the new horse! Might I suggest a Missouri Fox Trotter? Gaited like the Paso, without the fire! Very calm and quiet horses, would be perfect for Mylee to learn on. About 15hh +/-, (mine are about 14.3), so pretty small too. I haven't ridden any of mine all summer (way to hot), but I will not need to do any prep the day I want to go for a ride. Hop on and go. That is the beauty of the breed!

Third day in a row of rain! W4W, you can have it! I almost have a moat around my "castle". We have had almost 7" in the past three days, on top of the daily 1/2-1". I have started collecting the animals for my ark. Do you think anyone will notice that there are 45 chickens instead of 2

SEVEN.........Today We Laid SEVEN Eggs.....Six Regular Layers.....Seven Eggs. So Either One Of The Roosters Laid A Egg Or Little Roger Did

Little BO continues to make progress. She can stand and take a few steps now. Still very weak and flops down after a few steps. Taking her out of the hospital tomorrow morning and giving her a bigger space in hope that she will try to move around more. Got her out of the hospital/nest box this afternoon and sat her out in the yard to kinda free range her. She wasn't going to go anywhere and she seemed to enjoy it after she got use to being out there. Appears to be her right leg because I see her holding it up at times. Still no clue as to what her problem is. She just cannot walk. Everything else is perfectly normal. No eggs from her for some time now but that is not a concern for me. She is a bit of a runt for a BO. Very small compared to my big broody BO. Both are hatchery birds I assume. I bought them at around 12 weeks as pullets from someone. This has gone on for some time now. It has become a challenge for me to get her back to normal and walking again. Good learning experience for me. I still welcome input from anyone who might have some experience with what I am dealing with. I will keep you all posted

Now I need to know. How old do my chicks need to be before you all sex them for me. You all were 100% correct on that last batch. We are at 4 weeks now. Are you ready for pictures? I can get them by the weekend if they are old enough.
