Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Janet - my prayers are with you and your Dad

Well the post office came through for me! I got the call around 4:15 and was able to get there before they closed. I would have been so sad if they had to have another day in the box!

I'll get better pics tomorrow. Didn't want to stress them out too much.

The 2 Black Copper Marans are bold as can be. One of the silkies looks really tiny compared to her sister. I'll keep an eye on her. The rest all look really good and are within 2 seconds found their water and started pecking around the brooder.

I can already the breeds apart (not hard with what I got I know). The buff laced polish already look "regal" with their little buffont heads.

hooray for the USPS not goofing up too badly! congrats! and looking forward to lots of pics.

8 Eggs here, and a relaxed afternoon in the sunshine. it was only in the mid 40's, but wasn't windy.. standing in the sun was lovely, the shade... not so much, it was chilly... the Cochins tried mixing a little around the lilac, Tiger was obnoxious about it... the Cochins are pretty big... still. they ran. they returned tho' and spent more time out and about than previously. I've been hopeful for an egg from any of those girls, but alas, not yet... Peach set a good example and laid her egg today...

So my neighbor was helping me fill up the feeder in the coop and knocked over his beer. And I walked in and she was lapping up every drop she could swallow. And I asked him how much did she drink? He said it couldn't be much. And I said I don't like this you don't know her . I guess he thought I was being a bit ridiculous about it until a few minutes later SHE beat up my four Golden Comets, Big Broody and my rooster. Last check everybody was on the roost pole (minus some feathers) and she was in a nest box head first where I assume she will sleep it off. Tomorrow I will post a sign banning alcohol within 100 yards of the coop and run.

LOL! Oh poor GC's, B.broody, and the Roo!

I got two soft shelled eggs in the coop this morning, so I have at least 2 new layers! I also got a greenish egg from the EE girls. Today was the first day in the new run since we finished it last night. Unfortunately, there were a couple of the girls plus Rogue who flew the coop!

Clarabelle and the babies have integrated into the flock for the most part, and I have taken down the divider in the coop. The other three Marans chicks are still in the dog crate in the coop, and will have to get a little bigger before they can be let out. I may actually move them into the small coop when the EE girls get let out with everyone, so I can have the whole coop. Not quite decided what I want to do yet! The EE girls have been here 3 weeks already! When would you all start letting them range with the rest of the flock? Since their coop is close to the regular one, they have already had contact through the door. So many decisions! LOL

Hope everyone has a good day tomorrow! This chicken-mama is heading to bed!

Goodness Gracious Roger... glad I won't be a witness to the hangover in the morning! poor coop mates, they will want explanations for your behavior in the morning, and you won't remember a thing.

lindz, as long as they aren't symptomatic for respiratory, I would go ahead and let them out. they'll be able to get out of the way if anyone's too bossy... it's good to make the intro's asap as long as they're all healthy

Calm, demure, and always sweet, you'd never know that underneath
there lurks a brutal, vicious beast.
Like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, booze brings out her darker side.

When down her gullet the ale doth glide, the others wisely run and hide.
For with just one sip, the beast appears, evoking all their deepest fears.
She races wildly, h@ll-bent for leather, madly plucking every feather.

Her fury spent, she needs a rest, and falls face first into a nest.
The others sigh, limp with relief that the episode was rather brief.
But reality will not match belief.

For hidden deep below the hay, several bottles secretly lay,
stashed away for another day.
Can chickens go to AA?
