Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Okay, so this morning Spy, the bantam rooster, flogged my leg again. I bent down to catch him, and he squawked. The white Marans attacked my hand!

About an hour ago my doorbell rang. The neighbor woman asked for 2 dozen hatching eggs. She was grudgingly willing to pay the $2/dozen for table eggs. And that would be next week. So, I gavce her the eggs, and forced her to take Spy!

She was asking for a rooster anyway!
I am now bantam free, and can raise the height of the water and roosts.

check this out! this is BIG! and it wasn't a fleeting moment either! LF EE Tiger is peaceably hanging out with Sillie! Tiger chases everyone. and I mean everyone. she gave the humongous Cochins lots of exercise the first couple of weeks they were here... I cannot get over this flock! they are so cool... and all of the Cochins have finally figured out where they live and how to get in! I didn't have to catch anyone today!

Brutus is too cool... his girls are devouring venison fat in the background. I was given 2 legs and a huge bag of scraps and fat. they've done a really good job on one of the legs too, it will be interesting to see how much is left in the morning! I have a before pic of the leg, well mostly before... they did pull a lot of meat away from the bone by the time I got the blood off my hands and started taking pictures...

Something got Clarabelle this evening!

I went down to shut the door just after dark like I always do.... Shut the back pop-door, went around and opened the big door to do my head count. Was missing 1 G.comet, Clarabelle, and all the babies but 3 (2 cochins and 1 BCM was in the coop). I started looking for them, and found the G.comet, 2 cochins, and 3 BCM's under the coop. I got down on my hands and knees and used a board to guide them within arms reach to grab them and put them in the coop.... Then I re-counted, and was missing Clarabelle and 2 of the BCM chicks. So I went hunting for them. Found Clarabelle in the corner of the run. Something took a chunk out of her back and pretty much skinned her from the back up to her head. It looks like it tried to drag her through the fence because there is feathers on both sides, and blood on the fence. I kept looking for the other 2 chicks and found them crammed under the wooden crates that we use to pile wood into. I had to lay on my stomach and reach under to try to get them out. I was able to cup the smallest one and drag it out, then the other one wiggled out by itself. I put them in the coop and came back to the house to eat. Hubby and I went back down after we ate and looked to see if we could find anything. I moved her out of the pen and will bury her in the morning.

I did get 4 eggs today, 1 from an EE and 3 from the G.comets.

So sorry Lindz! That is pretty early for the predators, and brazen too!

MC-Loved the post "I don't know where sandwiches live" I almost snorted my coffee!

Cheeka-Your flock is looking good! I didn't realize they would eat raw meat! Little carnivores! But, I guess that is what bugs are!

I got 8 eggs today!
