Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

lindz, is he an EE? he's really beautiful... I'd be curious what color egg he hatched from. Are you thinking of adding him to your flock?

I woke up early this morning, I fell asleep last night without turning off the TV, and the weatherman was talking about snow! so I instantly woke up and looked out the window.

darned weatherman. we have 2" which is just a nuisance... still, I was hoping for a few more days of free range...

I called a friend who knows the Fosters owners, and he said that the guy ended up getting an apartment in the Village so he can't take them back. I've put the word out that I have free chickens if someone wants any... there are (of course) a few that I would like to keep... the White Rock, and the BR's... the rest... they're nice birds... there's a NHR in particular that is friendly... the roosters most likely will be processed for food. We'll see what happens...

I'm wiped out even though I had a fairly easy day. I'm having a cup of coffee, which I'm sure will bite me in the fanny later... 7 Eggs from the Dome, none yet from the Fosters, but I've been getting 1 a day lately... so maybe later, or if it's really just 1 laying, it's her day off...

He is actually an Ameraucana that is miscolored. The gold leakage on his wings disqualifies him. I am going to put him over my girls along with one of the marans boys. He definitely carries the blue egg gene and last years off spring is gorgeous! I am hoping to get a few olive eggers out of him and the marans girls plus a few more EEs would be nice too. If I get a decent son out of him I may replace him after this year as he is going on 2. I guess we will see how every thing plays out!

Oh and the woman decided not to get the roos. Freezer camp is still on for next weekend.

that's so cool - and I saw the comments on the EE thread. spell it right - Ameraucana.- I'm not a snob...(maybe a spelling snob...) but the Am owners would have a field day...

well... my day ended with the 7 Eggs, and I think I've found someone interested in the Fosters. my neighbor told me that our pharmacist took 2 from the Wildlife Refuge and he wants more... hope he wants a rooster or 3...

Did I spell it wrong somewhere?

I've seen it several different ways and wasn't sure which was right..... and yeah a couple of them were kinda grouchy about him... I mean isn't that what you do to get EE's in the first place is cross with Ameraucana?

and that sure is the start to breeding EE's which, IMHO are better than pure Am's. pure Ameraucana's are kinda boring color-wise and not the greatest layers... Araucana are so neat with their tufts and rumpless backsides... but again, poor layers and not exciting as far as color. EE's are hardier, better layers, friendlier (on the chicken scale that is...) and so varied it's endless!

Hi All,

Hatching day is tomorrow! I am hoping to wake up and find some chicks tomorrow. Actually I would like to find some pips and zips. I like watching them hatch, then I can tell who came from what egg! I can't wait to see what they look like! I put up some BR, AM, OE (that lays pink eggs), CL, and maybe the NH red or the delaware. I can't tell those eggs apart. All covered by one of the two AM roos. I also put up 4 AM eggs, that were all duds. So much for having more blue eggs. At least the CL/AM mix should get me blue egg layers, if I get any pullets!

I got 16 eggs today (really 21 because I found a secret hiding place behind the trash barrel under the stairs). I have no idea how long they have been there.

Lindz, love your blue roo! I have been trying for a blue hen, but I keep hatching blacks and splashes!

Good nite all!
