Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Congrats guys!!
Hay is cheaper this year. Bales are $3 and the big rolls $35. But that's local!
I feel their pain, thats a huge expense with fuel prices too.
My baby goes thru a bale in a day or 2 and he is just a couple hundred pounds.. (with my 2 doe's help)
ugh I can imagine full grown cow costs.
:fl I really hope you are blessed with rain soon. Spring is coming, maybe that will be some relief!

MC did you ever decide on turkeys? I really love my Bourbon Reds :love

How is ribeye doing?

A foot and a half of snow!!!! Yay!!!!! And it's cold!!!!! It's about 8 degrees now but the sun is shining.

I gave the girls half a watermelon for lunch (makes me feel better knowing it'll provide hydration as the waterers keep freezing).

Day 2 of the fodder experiment and my seeds are sprouting!

Are you just sprouting, or are you going to let it grow into actual fodder? Also, what kind of seed is this?

I'm going to try and grow it because it'll give more return (volume wise) for them to eat.

This is barley but I also have a tray of wheat sprouting too.

I can't look at the thermometer anymore. every time I do, it's colder than the last time. I don't even want to know anymore.

but I did find 8 Eggs today, and each time I found some, some lovely fat hen was sitting on them and keeping them nice and warm. I didn't lose any to freezing.

56 days until Spring, unless we freeze solid first.

I'm with you. I had -8 below zero this morning but no wind. Tonight is supposed to be worse with wind 25 to 30 mph. It got up to 19 degrees this afternoon and felt pretty good compared to -8. We have about 6" of snow on the ground but the thing I hate is the ice. Can't do anything with ice when it's this cold. All birds were locked in today. Roger reported me. I don't care. Four eggs today

Rumples first real egg.
OOOOH very pretty blue!
Janet - quail eggs are a delicacy - so many wonderful uses for those rich creamy eggs! guaranteed that pickling will be a big hit!

what types of marinades do you use? I love all kinds from citrus to balsamic vinegar... actually, the vinegar is my favorite for all kinds of meat...

it is 11 below without the wind chill this morning! almost 30 below with... at least we dodged the huge snow storm that made a mess downstate and to the east in New England. it's too cold for snow here...it's about 20 degrees warmer where it snowed a foot or more... at these temps, even my heated waterer won't function.
Yum, I love balsamic vinegar! KC Masterpiece has some good marinades, but I usually do garlic, cayenne, Worcestershire a little rum and black pepper.
When I am ready to grill, I melt butter into the marinade.
I do not salt foods due to my parents diet restrictions.. I have done salt free so long there are very few foods I will salt. (watermelon...fresh tomatoes yum)

Quote: He is great, getting HUGE! I will have to post pics when its warm enough to get some!

Nice!

Quote: Wheat went very well with all the birds last year.

I am also sprouting BOSS. and barley. I am on my second day too. I think that the girls will be very happy.
They will love it!
