Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

today is over, I'll be sore tomorrow, I'm sure, but I can spend a bunch of extra time in bed too! with a book, or the laptop... today was a nightmare, honestly. I was up early, and the yard has melted so much, but the water has no place to go, so it' pooled and froze. I used a ski pole to get around, heaven forbid I fall - my butt is so purple and painful. by the time work was finished and I headed to the store for a bag of dog food, I thought I would pass out from the pain. there's not a single kibble in the house or I would have skipped it... I had company again this afternoon, which was really nice. he made lunch and supper. hovered a bit while I was doing chicken chores, but it was sweet, he wanted to help, but there's not much to it... although, he didn't block the door to the dome, so half of them just strolled on out for some unintended free range. it was cute, and they are so easy to round up, I didn't mind. he's quite smitten with Peach, and Sillie Soo... (just keep racking up those points....!)

another 13 egg day with 3 from the Fosters!

Well Cheeka, good thing you have a day of rest tomorrow. I can guess how sore you are. Long hot tub soak might help a bit. So nice you have a caring friend around too. Misery loves company, especially when he cooks!

I heard a news report saying another polar vortex (what a name) is expected for the eastern US sometime next week. If that's true, what a bummer. Hope that report was wrong.

Wow, 13 again!

We only got 4 and no more Cochin eggs. The red one goes back tomorrow morning and we'll see if I can multiply her through the magic of chicken math. Apparently there is a black Silkie that is already broody available. What do you think? Are they really chickens?? Should I go for it?

SBMom, that pup is the perfect "just cuz" kind a pup... sweet face, needs kissing...

W4W, yes, we are getting another round of bitter cold next week, temps plummeting back to below zero, snow and ice...

thankfully, it won't last too long, we're rapidly coming to the end of winter - only 24 days to go! not that we can't have horrible weather through June... May snow storms are frequent, and often dangerous as the snow is so dense it's known to break trees. Right now, we are having a typical February thaw. everything is mud and puddles... but we know better than to hope for it to last. March hasn't started yet.

I slept til past 9 this morning! I was shocked! at least it's still above freezing, so the flock has water... they always have feed left over from the day before, but it's the water situation that will get me dashing out very early, sometimes even before coffee! CBS News Sunday Morning program did a segment on hoarding. I'm not a hoarder, at least inside the house stuff... but I think I'm a chicken hoarder. so I've been avoiding the large chain feed stores and their tubs full of chicks. W4W, get the black Silkie. you'll love her. and perhaps an extra broody will be helpful down the line... they are such gentle chickens, unusual for sure, but that's part of their charm...

the Gilboa flock, where Pebble lives, is going through a slow down in production, looks like a bit of molting is going on... so he asked for a dozen eggs... the last time they got eggs from this side, I didn't have the Marans eggs yet, so I put some in the dozen... I got a phone call a few hours later, wanting to know what kind of chicken lays the dark speckled eggs and can I get one for him??? I hope so, or I hope I can breed one or two for him... he's also going to put Pebble and the amberlink Winnie together in early March, and get me some hatching eggs...

my L.I is coming back up yet again today! he wants to take me to my favorite Chinese buffet restaurant - we went in December, and they had marked a few never-before-tried dishes as gluten free and I had a blast tasting all kinds of wonderful dishes that I would never have tried because they "looked" suspicious! he would take me to the movies too, but he is right in thinking that I can't sit in one spot for a couple of hours. so we'll watch movies here instead. gotta be something on the pay per view channels...

I slept in this morning. 6:30... that is late for me. When I went out to give the girls some scrambles eggs and sprouts, they were still in the coop. Cute little buggers heard me and popped their heads out. When they saw the treats.... oh boy!!

They come running out! No eggs yet. It could possibly be a no egg day unless Rumples decides to bless me with one. She is becoming quite the Diva. I need a nice sunny day so that I can get good pictures of her. She is very raptor looking. Kinda scary.... Happy Sunday!

Gluten free Chinese food... yum. I have been leaning in the gluten free direction. I am hoping that it helps with joint inflammation .

Ugh I've been getting up without fail at 6 every morning!! Wide awake!!! I use to be able to sleep til noon! This getting older thing sucks! But a favorite saying of mine is "be thankful for getting old, it's a privilege denied many".

So I'll counteract the early awakening with and after church Sunday nap!!

Chinese sounds yummy!!! Haven't had that in awhile! I just made pulled pork nachos. If you've never tried that combo you are missing out. It is fabulous. I don't even like beef or chicken nachos anymore!!! Yummy!!!

The oldest girls are 17 weeks!!! It's getting close (of course the 5 oldest girls consist of two silkies and a polish.... So I'm really only close prob with the two marans).
