Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I came home from my business trip to find my husband and his guys logging (they're masons by trade). They're clearing trees from the planned fence line. We have some nice trees but the previous owner let things go for 30 yrs so we have 30 years of scrub growing.

And they're going to keep going tomorrow in the bitter cold!!!!!

Tonight I decided to candle them all and I am far less excited about what I was seeing tonight. Instead of seeing little spider rings, I am seeing what looks startlingly like the "ring of death"

. The incubator did get up to 102 this afternoon, so maybe they all just got cooked. All of them though? Hmmmmm.

I hope they're not cooked! I've never used an incubator, but

W4W, I have 38 pullets and hens, but only 36 are known layers. still haven't caught Cochin Zira on the nest, but she looks ready finally, and Sillie... she's been seen investigating the nest at least... and 3 of today's eggs came from the Fosters!

good luck to the lindz's for all the work still needin' done and stayin' warm doin' it! can't wait to see puppy pics! there was a great pyr puppy up for adoption yesterday down on Long Island yesterday... I sure do wish I could have gone and gotten her! 12 weeks old...

Hi mortie! I think you are the thread poet Laurette. I have hatched using an incubator, but I think most people have much better luck than I did. I have an EE that was sold as an Ameraucana. She lays beautiful greenish-blue eggs almost every day. But, she was a bit psycho until she started laying. She was 26 weeks, I think. She used to come flying at me whenever my back was turned. Now she comes flying out of nowhere at me, screeches to a stop at my feet and does the submissive squat. You can tell she is completely bewildered by this turn of events. But, she turned out pretty and productive, and is certainly quieter than my barred rock, who screams and swears every morning like a chicken sailor. The barred rock is much noisier than Astrid, my cockerel. I also have a marans. She is pretty, but she is only about 8 or 9 weeks older than your girls, and not laying yet, so I can't really comment on loudness or craziness. the egg she hatched from was certainly pretty. Maybe I should try pie.

puppy puppy puppy!

Beautiful pictures.

I've been looking at some pictures and I'm hoping they will be ok. I am going to keep a closer eye on that pesky thing. I think I jinxed them by going to the feed store today and buying a chick feeder and a couple of packets of sav-a-chick! Lesson learned. I won't buy anything else until I have live chickens on the ground.

Going to be really hard but I am not touch them again until at least day 7. It's just causing my anxiety!

How sad is it that I have 2 windows open on this thread? One for current stuff where I am posting and one where I left off reading halfway through 2012....back to reading.
