the plow just went rumbling through, it's 2* outside but sunny and clear. we're not supposed to have any precipitation today, but we have 2 more storms coming in the next week. so much for temps staying above zero for the first week of March too. such a bummer. the extended forecast is so depressing that I turned it off before I returned to my bed until it's all over.

So sorry to hear you will be feeling the cold a bit longer. Your bad weather seems to coincide with our needed rain days.

Thingy isn't really under consideration for the Silkie, it's just a lack of an appropriate adjective on my son's part. He loves the chickens, and heads out most days after school for some chicken therapy. To heck with learning breed names, he has his own pet name for each of the groups. The big girls are Squooshies, Seramas are Squeakies, and the Cochins are Fluffies. So far the Silkie has defied description and there is doubt that she is actually a chicken at all.

Haha! Fortunately the therapeutic effects of chicken holding take place quickly, so we have yet to find out. The world of chicken poop is wide and varied. You will have ample opportunities to explore this world very soon. In fact, it will be quite unavoidable.

Did you say already if you've named him? I'll bet he has ferocious puppy breath. The cuter they are the worse the puppy breath and the more trouble they get into.

Thanks it ends up being the only one, so they're back on on a routine of eating and laying nice solid eggs. the spouted barley seems to be working great, there is never any signs of it when I go back out to see and they are not eating as much feed. Which is a big plus as far cost of feed per egg and the thought of being even healthier for my birds which means better eggs. ENJOY

Your best off buying another dozen because all chickens are different. For all you know they might start laying two weeks late.Hope it helped

I got THREE eggs today!! Woo Hoo!!! Looks like Rumples is giving me a different shade of blue green every time. Si has been laying everywhere from light blue to a light olive. I guess it depends on how much brown overlay she puts into it. Smoke has not layed yet... but it is only noon thirty.
