Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

It was a pain with Rumples last night... She did not sit on her nest with the eggs in it. She went to the empty nest, so I moved the eggs under her. She puffed up and growled at me. An hour later, I checked on her and she moved back over to her nest... so I moved the eggs again!! Finally... at 10 pm, I checked on her and she moved once again!!!!! So... I moved the eggs AGAIN!!

This morning, Rump was out feeding and the eggs were in a nice bunch in the right side nest. I have no clue if she sat on them. I am hoping... I am getting attached to those little eggs.

I should have commented last night. Sorry I didn't. A hen will sit anywhere. That is a big reason for separating a broody. She doesn't necessarily go to the same nest she was in/on before. You are going to have to move her to a place where her nest is the only nest. I was able to hang a tarp from the rafters to create a broody room last year. Add food and water. She doesn't "need" access to the outside as long as she has enough room. I found that my hens don't want outside anyway during their time.
You can also try a dog kennel in the run, with a section of run sectioned off to keep her from going inside the coop.

MC... thanks... I have a large dog crate that I can use to put her in. Will that work? It has room for food and water also.

That would be perfect! I was also going to say confine her to a nest, but a dog crate would work better! Hopefully she decides to stay put!

I'm hoping to candle the eggs today... its day 7, and I am not really sure what I am looking for.... HMM.....

One!!!
Today we laid one!!!
And a beauty it is.
This is next to the one from Thursday!
Same BCM or the other????
The color in this pic is pretty spot on. I almost didn't see it in the coop. Not in the nest. I'm thinking curtains are in order!!! Either that or the chickens said to themselves about the fake eggs..."we better not lay in the nest...those eggs have been there for a month! She never takes them out!"

It may be only one, but it is a fantabulous one!

Might have to put BCM at the top of my very long wish list. I have heard that their eggs get darker once they start laying, but don't know how quickly it happens.

I am convinced that, were they humans, chickens would be the clique-iest, flip-floppiest fad followers you've ever met. One nest box is the in thing, so they all wait to use it. Next week a different box becomes en vogue. 3 other perfectly good ones right there, but oh no, they have to use THE box! They wait around squawking their heads off while the lucky one takes her sweet time. I love the days where it is fashionable to use a different nest box than all the other girls. Much quieter! (Reminds me of the dark side of high school.
