Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Here is another picture of the chicks I was talking about a week or so ago. They appear to be the same breed and I still have suspicions about one of them being a future meal...

You can name him Dumpling.

Quiet today! Where is everyone??? I'm bored !

Almost burned the house down today. I didn't like the set up I had for the heat lamps so I went and grabbed the one from the coop that has a clamp. I cleaned off the dome and plugged it in. Started smoking.... Didn't think to clean the bulb. The dust on the bulb would have totally caught on fire! Lesson learned!

I entered these pics in the "natural egg" contest!

CL... those eggs are gorgeous!!

Just checking in... busy busy getting things ready for catfishing this weekend. I told DH that I cannot go Easter weekend. I need to be here when the chicks start to pip and peep... put a block on the coop to keep the others out. They have the dog crate to use as a nest for a day or two and then Rumples and her brood will go in there. If one of the chicks got killed because I was gone, I would feel horrible! The girls are out free ranging with DH watching over them.

Oh...

I wasted a whole day yesterday. Somehow, Ming got out of the house the night before. She didn't sleep on me or on her favorite chair, but I was tired and not feeling well, so just figured she decided to sleep on a different chair. I should have looked for her. In the morning, no Ming. I looked everywhere in and around the house and garage. Then I started looking around the neighborhood, even in some backyards to see if I could coax her out of wherever she was (hopefully) hiding. Nothing.

Posted a lost ad on Craigslist, made some signs, alerted the neighbors and made a bunch of fliers to pass out. Walked around looking and calling for hours. Hubs came home a little early to help look. I was hoping as dinner time approached, she would be brave enough to come out of hiding. Finally hubs thought he saw a glimpse of her under the neighbor's storage shed. I had checked there already, and never saw her, even though 2 cats belonging to the neighbor were very interested in that shed, but I never saw her.

Got the flashlight and looked again and sure enough, there she was. Went around to other side to get her, and she was gone! Huh?! 4 of us standing around the shed and there was no way she could have run. Finally figured out that she was hiding on the support beam in between the joists. TWO HOURS later, I finally coaxed her out. Stupid cat. Had to get out the big guns (baked chicken!) to get the job done. It was like she went all feral over night.

She was pretty agitated that night, but seems back to normal now --- wanting dinner! Still not sure how she got out. In 5 months, she's never tried and doesn't really seem interested. Hope it doesn't happen again.

So, my stomach doesn't hurt any more, which is good, and we are all relieved. yay

My mom had a load of gravel delivered this morning. Hubby stayed home sick. I went to the grocery store and Goodwill today. Came home, put away groceries and raked out some places where the gravel was piled up. Washed 4 dozen eggs for a customer. Locked down the eggs in the incubator. And today was a low egg day with only 9.
I really like the basket idea! That would help me mark which chicks came from which colored eggs.
