Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

My girls are 23 weeks and NO EGGS!! After reading the first 30 pages of this thread I'm off to make a pie:D

It will be soon, but pie never hurts! We had such a wacky winter here, it affected the start of laying for a lot of people. Did you have a stressful summer? Sometimes with chicks born hatched later in the season, they will start late because the daylight hours growing shorter works against them. Sometimes they even skip the first season, and start up right after winter starts and the light hours grow longer.

Soon for yours, though!

What breeds do you have? How many? Any pics?

What type is betty? I will take some pics tomorrow for you all.
W4W already answered, but I have to add that she is an exceptional hen, very sweet, high in the order, very good layer - about 5 eggs a week. my version of Roger is Wilma. she is demanding, loud, jealous of the Pug, always at my feet - but she lays more often than Roger. usually about 3 a week, but she took the longest Winter break of the whole flock. almost 5 months. this is Wilma, making sure that I have something for her to eat before I am allowed to come out of the house. (well... I did go in) because of her personality, she's been one of my favorites.

OEGBrutus loves the camera. and he loves me... but I look so yucky I cropped myself out but left my eye...or my glass, but I'm getting some practice at "selfies" what I see most... I need a haircut. and too many wrinkles. oh and Brutus? he really does love me. he got all romantic with my hand this afternoon. left 2 little deposits that looked like mouse poop. that was a first, and I gotta say... it grossed me out a little.

make sure you take pics of the finished Pie and your girls feasting! hang in there - within 1 - 30 days you'll find your first egg! Pie Works!

W4W, Min Min is hanging on still. I got tough and took away all water but her medicated batch. OMG, HERSHEY just dashed in here playing with something, and it got away! he caught it again! a tiny mouse. first time in a decade that one made it in alive.

okay, mouse is out. she's doing better. she has limited access to the house, is eating, drinking and using the box. I bought all new litter boxes, low walls, my old ones were deep, maybe she couldn't get in them anymore. and I found an arm and hammer pet powder for the carpet that I think is good. even after 4 days, it smelled good, so I used it again to make sure. I will just use it at least 2ce a week... it's been so much better that I have decided to give her a little more time to enjoy the coming warmth and grass. her times not long tho'.

thanks, it's so true... she has times when she's like a 2 year old, jumping up on her personal little table... very affectionate, and other times when she falls off the little table, doesn't land on her feet, has difficulty getting up and looks really vacant. she sleeps a lot.
