I promise to get on tomorrow and catch up with everyone! Busy around here. The 3 year old shut the gate to the run th his evening and I had a few chickens that didn't make it in. I went to lock up and only had 12 chickens including the broodies! 3 were pacing the fence 2 were roosting in the feed room and we found the last one huddled under the coop. It took some prodding but she finally came out and went in. I told hubby if I didn't find them all I was quitting! Thank goodness they are all tucked in now!

W4W, love the dust bath photos - so adorable!

lindz, glad you realized and rounded them all up successfully!

That sure is a cute baby!! Now to get DH to let me have a goat!! ;)

I might be the only one who has nothing better to do that check to see if anyone has posted lol.

My chicks seem about equal in terms of personality and I can't tell anything about their individual health at this point. I guess I'll go with 2 nice girls with good sized baby buckets and let the other three go. My daughter's favorite roo is going to his new home next weekend. The two second gen RSL boys are going "home" next week probably. Someone is supposed to email me about my excess red pullets. After all that is done I will still have 3 excess ameracauna roos. No takers on CL.

My hubs left Sunday for a 2wk trip to Malaysia and China, so I have been a bit busier around here. Tonight, #1son had a piano recital at school. He did really well and is relieved it is over; he was soooo nervous! Usually it's evening when I have time to post much, and most of you easterners are already snoozin' away.

How old is your daughter that has to give up her cockerel? Hope she doesn't have too much trouble saying good-bye. Sounds like you might be having Ameraucana stew after all.

ooh that's a nice setup W4W! I really like the back door... Sillie Soo can get up on the lowest roost on her own, but for a while she needed to hop on the kennel nest and then up to the roost. I worried about her a little when I took the kennel out for Esther... but she was roosting no problem... speaking of Esther... I found her on the roost tonight. I put her back in the Dome. I doubt she's broken of her broodiness, she hopped on the front roost for about a minute and then headed slowly back to her preferred spot. it's fine. maybe later in the season.
My BA is still broody and I am caring for "her" chicks.

I have to load chick pics on the computer. They are so cute and friendly (Eng Orps).

Pullets pleeeeze!

Howdy everyone! I have some great news! While I was out today my son made himself and my husband 3 egg omlets using all of the 5 eggs in the house which sent my DH out to the coop to get the 6th. When I got home found out what had been cooked and asked my DH if we were out of eggs, he shocked me by saying... " I really think we need a couple more chickens that are already laying eggs." ;D I was shocked!! Yay!! He's on board, now to find a couple more!!
My hubs was luke warm about getting chickens for years. I am the animal person. If it weren't for me he probably would live in some very tidy condo, no pets, no kids, and lots of free time!

Once he got to know the chickens, he really likes them, and especially the eggs. Feels like they are contributing to the family! The boys tried to eat scrambled eggs at a restaurant last year and could barely choke them down. Terrible tasting! We are so used to the good eggs now, there's no going back!

Very cute. I saw the other one you put on What is this chicken thinking? Not enough brain power today to think of anything worthy for a caption.

Is there such a thing as too cute?
I had heard that about the Silkies too, and figured it was because most of them probably can't see well enough to find the roost, their upward vision being somewhat compromised. After I got my Silkie I realized their flight feathers are too split up to get any lift. The Silkie can jump up about 1½ft, so I set the roost a little under that just for her. She always roosts and is not all lacking in chicken intelligence. Very good forager and the first to figure out to standing on the kale leaves enables her to nip off small pieces.

You can see Edna Mode gets plenty to eat!

Bunny and Minnie Pearl are always together. Conjoined Cochins!

Bunny is so sweet, but hard to get pics because she always runs to me.

Minnie Pearl is so pretty, but not very assertive. She is a target for grumpy, broody Seramas.

Well I bought a dozen eggs yesterday, think perhaps the 'started pullets' I got are younger then expected? 2 NH Reds and 2 Rocks. Waiting, Pictured in my 'profile photo' are 2 of them, what do you think, perhaps last dozen to buy? I have these 4 and 3 easter eggers coming around Jun 1.
