Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I got 9 eggs today which is a perfect day w squirt on the nest. I also dug a old flat I use for strawberry picking and filled it w shavings. I put it in the roof of our well cause the girls are laying up there again!!!

lots of reading to catch up on! MC, I wish you luck... I would have the worst time trying to pick any to give up. but the turkey babies are really cute!

my day was fun. lots of work to do after a longish work day - I had a carload of really big parcels, hope all the Moms on my route got some great stuff for Mother's Day...

I set up the broody pen. hauled the BO Broody, kennel and all and slid her in, she didn't ruffle a single feather over it. then I took Peachy's kennel and moved that in. one of Esther's eggs got broken over a squabble for that prime spot, she was evicted and I found her taking a bath. earlier, Sillie laid her egg and Esther took it so she still has 3, 2 standard, 1 bantam. when I tried to move her after her bath, she got so bent out of shape! I was able to catch her back in her old spot. put her in the broody pen... up to her to make it or break it. it was a long afternoon of pacing for her!
pacing in front of the food and water by the front "wall"

still pacing, and not even glancing at her eggs

ooh glancing an hour later but still pacing...

7 PM finds her on the roost. I'm bumming but...

at 8:00 PM, she's all tucked in the back of the kennel and the eggs are covered!

21 Eggs today, minus the Silkie egg that Esther has, leaves me with 20 in the basket.

I collected 22 eggs today. I am only missing a Leghorn and an EE egg. Not bad!

The list looks like;
1 BCM rooster
2 LH
2 BR
2 RIR
4 BCM hens (okay, 3 and the white one)
1 RIR/PR
1 GB. Maybe both. I feel weird getting rid of one.

I like the Partridge Rocks. They are beautiful, and apparently favorites of the boys. They were the mothers of most of the chicks last year. Okay, I just talked myself into keeping them.

Ahhhhhh I totally cheated and candled an egg. I saw veining and a tiny embryo! I know a lot can go wrong as I'm only on day 3 but im happy to get this far. I only checked one cause I'm doing the "less is more" philosophy if hatching in hopes of keeping my expectations down!!!! It's totally not working...I'm soooo excited!!!!

I should candle some of the Serama eggs, I guess. They're so small I wonder if I'll be able to see anything. Maybe tomorrow night. I hope at least a few of them are developing because Fudge and Sister are sharing a nest and keep playing keep away with the eggs. They get moved around so much they are probably scrambled.

Sounds good! I think Partridge Rocks are so pretty, so they would have my vote too. Is GB a type of sexlink?

South Orange/Newark
Piscataway/Plainfield
and Rockaway/Dover

House was in the first town, but church (and most of my time) was in the second.
Several siblings are still/back in NJ, including South Jersey. I miss going to the beach. DH hates the beach.
