Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Speaking of getting rid of chickens...

I have 5 red pullets. I need to get down to two. How do I pick my two? Who is the most friendly? Who is the biggest? Looks aren't an issue bceause they all look the same. Who seems to get along with other chickens? How do I pick?

Widest leg spread, widest base of tail (looking from behind, the upside down V made by the tail), fuller/rounder deepest chest (keel). Means there is more room for organs and egg laying. After that, I'd go with who makes a harmonious flock.

I would keep the ones that do not peck each other. If they all peck then keep the biggest ones. They will have better egg production.

I would go with the friendliest. Its all about the chicken love.

Which I do not get.... my chickens only want me for the food. Even the little chicks know that I am the treat dispenser.

Ahhhhhh I totally cheated and candled an egg. I saw veining and a tiny embryo! I know a lot can go wrong as I'm only on day 3 but im happy to get this far. I only checked one cause I'm doing the "less is more" philosophy if hatching in hopes of keeping my expectations down!!!! It's totally not working...I'm soooo excited!!!!

TWO... TWO... They laid TWO eggs today!! I was greeted by the girls when I got home today. I went to check on Rumples... stepped out of the pen and noticed water pooling on top of the dog crate from all the rain yesterday. I tipped the crate over to drain the water and it felt a little heavier than usual. I peeked inside and saw Si in there trying to lay an egg.

The little Bungees are growing so fast! Everyday I come home from work and I am amazed at how much they have grown in one day!

I think that one of the Lavender Ams is a roo. I went to take a picture and the battery was dead. Tomorrow.... I need opinions. Its little pea comb is slightly fatter than the other Ameraucanas. I put a bright green leg band on one of the chicks, but quickly took it off when the others started to peck at it.

I was pretty good with picking out my roos on my ameracaunas at 5 weeks. That's when the boys started to show themselves. There were a couple I wasn't sure of and one turned out to be a roo and one turned out to be a pullet. CAn't wait to see your pics.
