Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Welcome Kate! I'm going to say you have a little more time based on the face of the one. Doesn't look red enough. But I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination.

W4W - I love your cochins. They are just beautiful. I tried getting some earlier from MPC but they didn't have enough to send me so I got White Marans instead. I think I'm glad because don't they go broody???? I can't handle more than a couple of broody hens and I have the 2 silkies.

thanks for the info, one of the rocks is pretty red in the comb...... but everyone keeps telling me the NH girls should lay first?

, thanks for joining us! as for eggs... started pullets will stop laying when moved to a new location. they do not like change, it's stressful... perhaps some hadn't started yet, but obviously female... so they fit under the category. any who had laid their first egg will resume within a month. early laying is inconsistent anyway, it takes time to get their "plumbing" in order. have you seen any of them investigating the nests? any squatting? it doesn't hurt to put a fake egg or golf ball in the nests to encourage them.

Thank you, they have been on the nests and in the coop some but not alot. they got here April 24th so only about 2 weeks. I'll add a fake egg or 2 and wait. Thanks!

I put the hooligans on their roost last night to see what they would do. what they did was wait until I shut the coop back up and then jump down. Not into it yet I guess lol.

I didn't think my first babies would ever roost! Then I bought 4 laying hens. The babies slowly began to roost over the next week.
