Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

expanded the play yard some today, will be making it bigger yet as I get the wire, i put bird netting over top. meantime, here's photos of all 4 girls, do you think from the looks I'm anywhere close to finding eggs?

Kate, I think you still have at least a month before they lay. I don't see any wattles and the comb are pretty small still. I got chicks born in early March (the first hatch from the hatchery to the feed store) and most of them started laying toward the end of July.

They will lay before they finish growing, but their combs/wattles should be at least halfway to these adults.
BR Spot

New Hamp Penny
Penny's comb and wattles were a bit less than half this size when she started laying. She is one of my best!

Cheeka has a good track record predicting when they will lay.

Ok.... I just might jinx this if I talk about it...but here goes. I think..... I think that Rumples tried to walk on her feet. When I opened the broody pen, the Bungees dashed out and Rump was close behind. Her feet do not move, but she tried to put weight on them. She has not done this in 3 weeks. I thought that I was wrong about what I saw, but then she did it again when I tossed out some mealworms. Her feet aren't working but she is trying. I am very very hopeful......

That's great news. Has she been getting the vitamins or is she healing on her own?

The picture is super cute!

She is getting the Super B complex. She is really good about eating whatever I sneak them into. She also get 1/2 baby aspirin a day. And yes... she has attempted to walk several more times. I do not have to push her. She tip toed to the big girl feeder and was able to stand tall enough to eat from it.

my NH Fosters have shorter combs than W4W's, but I believe you have at least 4 weeks to go with the pinkest, and longer for that BR in particular. she may not lay until she's 28 weeks... hang in there - it's coming... and the breeds you chose are good layers, once they start, you'll be happy!

Dueling Broody's! you need some banjo music...
