Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

OMG!!! So freakin tired. We just got home from fishing. 16 Walleye, 3 trout and 2 bass in the freezer. We also 'caught" the biggest catch of all. A pontoon boat that was drifting in the lake. It was quite interesting trying to board the boat in rough and windy waters.
The chickens went through a ton of water in the 48 hrs that we were gone. I need to get the nipple bucket up before the weekend of the wedding. We will be gone for 4 days.
Rumples is the same. We are going to come up with a plan for her. I think that a separate flock with her and 2 of her chicks in the small coop in the ground.
I hope all is well with you all. And that the predator problems are solved.
Gotta go get the house ready. Tomorrow we get company for 8 days. yikes!!!!

My low egg mystery is solved. I knew she had a couple under her but then when it got really hot I noticed them sticking out! She had 20 LF eggs under there!!!!

Probably the coolest place to do that business...I've noticed my pullets seem hot in the box when they are laying.

I guess I need to go hunting for some hidden nests again.... So far I haven't found any, but I only got 7 eggs today. I haven't been in the double digits all month.... Silly chickens.

I went and picked up 9 new chicks today. They are old enough to be off the lights, and I'm guessing between 7-10 weeks.... 4 Salmon Faverolles, 3 Cuckoo marans, and 2 Blue cochins (LF).
I have gotten birds from this lady before. She has several different breeds, and coop set ups. She had some AMAZING looking heritage RIR's. They were massive! I didn't bring any of them home, but I would have liked to! Maybe next time! I want to see how these guys turn out, and maybe hatch some pure breed chicks next spring... We'll see what happens. I'm hoping all of the ones I got today are pullets except the one Sal.Fav cockerel. Everyone else seems more skittish, so I've got my fingers crossed!

Clindz... your ladies know where to go on a hot Summer day. I hope that my girls do not sneak a few out in the bushes. I am too old for all that crawling around. Maybe a nice shady umbrella over the coop.
