Yep.... TWO!!
I gave Rumples a dust bath since she cant do it herself anymore. At first she tried to get away, but after she felt the cool dirt on her body, she calmed down and cooed at me. Time to get her into her little spot. I am afraid that I am growing way too attached to my crippled hen.

I doubt that she will survive the winter.

enjoy Rumples while you can. she may surprise you... but I hear you, Winter is rough. poor girl.

Hey. Can it, you two. Winter is a TABOO subject right now. I don't even want to think about it. Last year we had like 50 days of below zero temps. That's below zero, not below freezing. It got down to -50 a couple of times. I do not have a plan for how I am going to do this chicken thing over the winter. I have ideas, but not a plan.

I move we table any discussion about winter until October 1st.

It's hard to table a discussion about winter when at my work we are about to have Christmas in July, the first round of ornaments are coming out and our television network is going to be showing Christmas movies! So I'm kind of surrounded by winter at the moment lol

Christmas and winter are not the same thing. Just ask my brother who lives in Texas...

Lindz - yay for chicks!

Daily report.

No squatting.
No eggs.
No activity in the nest box.
NO FREE RANGE TIME.
NO PIE.

Still just one with 5 pips.

I had to move them into a different area. Hubby made me a brooder out of a tote and wire. Momma was getting way too hot in the nest box. She was panting heavily and it is a very hot and humid day. She settled down quietly and I quickly tucked chick and eggs back under her. In the brooder I also had room to put food and water close to her instead of going down every 30-45 minutes and giving her water ect.

I'm thinking about mixing up some electrolytes for everyone.....
