Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Mine are eating a decent amount of their feed. I had the feeder filled up and it's pretty empty now and it holds 7 lbs. We have cut back on the snacks too, which is no fun because we love giving them kitchen scraps. I've been holding them in the run to make sure they're eating plenty of feed and to keep the possibility of someone laying an egg under the deck to a minimum.

Doesn't matter, they're going to hold out on the eggs a while longer it looks like.

Lindz - great pictures! Do you remove the seeds before you make the jam? Those things have some crazy seeds. Ours started the other day, we have a mixed patch of blackberries and a couple different kinds of raspberries and we get about a cup of berries a day from it for a couple of weeks.

I didn't bother with the seeds this time.... If we think there are too many then I will probably sieve out half the next time... This is the first time I've made blackberry freezer jam, so we'll have to see how it turns out!

We had a bit ofa cool down yesterday and I got 3 eggs . I also did not let them free range .
i think just about everyone has had a cool down, if i had my whole yard fenced in i would free range, i would not let them in the work shop, shed or barn, just to be out in the grass, we do have 3 acreages of clear yard, DH and i were out there this morning and said it would be neat to let them go into the yard, but we do have 60 chickens and to count every night to make sure they are all in would be a pain, not like we only have 10 or 15.

Ok, so the official morning report is in!

NO EGGS.

NO further disturbance in the nest box.

Poop a plenty after the big snack last night
I don't think you can complain about them not laying until you start fermenting your feed...I think your girls are holding their eggs hostage.

I built our feeder out of a 5 gallon bucket and a piece of PVC pipe. The thread and how to is here somewhere under feeding and watering the flock. It is no waste that I can see. I went from 2 bags of feed to 1 now. It is saving a ton of money! I'm going to build another one for my duck as well because they are messier then the chickens. I broke down and bought electrolytes for the chickens waterer. They love it and I feel better about them during the day when it's so hot and humid. The went crazy saying omg it's Gatorade for chickens.

Yeah with the small number of birds that I have, that would be a little excessive I think.

My aquarium has been leaking for about a month. I am addressing that today. It is not pretty. I hate this.

Cheeka August 1st

Mortie's Hubby: July 20th

I see Cheeka has it in for me lol.

W4W: August 2nd - they will be exactly 20 weeks then, which is about average. (And I usually guess way wrong, so you'll probably get eggs a lot sooner!
