Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Oh dear!

I've seen maggie in the nest and my ameracaunas have been crazy so I've been looking more than usual ,too. GAH. Can't believe you didn't get one today. Sorry about hubby's uncle and your DVT! Take care of yourself.

It's also funny how our chickens think it's ok to tease us and then expect that they won't get eaten!!
 
Especially in the case of mine because we DID eat a couple of them. Maybe the girls think they're immune because they were roosters? Got news for ya. No one is immune.
 
Does it count as a squat if it is getting near dusk, they jump on my chair and I go to pet them and they squat? They still run away from me during the day when I approach them. I have three 17 week olds. A black Australorp (Aretha), A barred Rock (Pip) and a RIR (Rosie). This is my first time raising chickens

well... it would seem that hellish workdays are the norm today. I had one too, but my coworker had a worse one, she was sideswiped and her car is wrecked. I was already double booked with 2 routes, but made some calls from the road and got another carrier to come to her rescue. I feel so bad, she had a nice car... she has a minor injury, the airbag sprained her wrist when it opened.

but I finally got home at 4:15 and let the flock out into the bright sunshine - it was pure delight to have them stream past my feet, clucking and flapping... I collected 14 Eggs, and took the 4 from the Fosters and gave them to Esther in her new dogloo nest. she scratched around, rolled them back, then left and got on the roost, all puffed up. so... I put her back and took the eggs. I think the only way she'll brood is if I block off the apple coop, but the majority of the Dome hens lay in there, so that would cause a lot of disruption. I'm thinking she's better off waiting til Spring to be a Mama.


and with the early fall weather we're having, perhaps it truly is the best to wait, it's going down to 46° tonight... barely to hit the mid 60's tomorrow...
