Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

the center section is roofed and I picked up the hardware cloth today - to install starting tomorrow. all the ventilation will be covered with it and this chicken wire drop ceiling will be replaced with it as well. it's slick. I didn't have to use the furniture lumber from my canopy, but I did tear the upholstery off a couch to get at the oak frame... the only wood I had to purchase was a pack of furring strips. the rest is salvaged from a few different places.

Gossy is all puffed up because BO Fawn, aka Sister is pecking around for some of the seeds I'm sharing with the chicks. I've never seen her push her wings that far forward. I was laughing, sweet girl...

can't be disappointed about only collecting 5 Eggs... lots of molting going on still, and scenes like this one make me not care anyway...

they all still fit

one of many many scenes I photographed today at work

sweet dreams! hope this evokes warm fuzzy feelings for everyone

W4W, can't wait to see pics! fingers also crossed that my associates on the west coast will be diligent in their service! very exciting and such excellent news that the flock is healthy and thriving!

Scrambles - that's one seriously nice haul!! y'all will be eating great this year! I hope to have plenty of venison before too long! that, and I will have a bunch of roosters to process. I've decided to cull the D'Uccles. I intend to make a winter taxidermy project of them and then set them on the mantle so I can poke them for a change...

700

I'm getting ready to fly south for the winter. Anybody have any extra room with wifi available?
Careful friends.....you will also need a additional 50 pounds of feed a month, a unlimited credit card, a team of lawyers, a daily meeting with PETA workers, neighbors who will not kill you, and unlimited PIE to restore peace and quiet.

Good morning Ok and Roger!!!!!!

Nice elk Scrambles! I'm assuming elk tastes a lot like deer? I've had venison all my life but never elk.......

Gorgeous pictures as usual Cheeka. Gossamer is so fluffy! I'm glad you have decided to take away the D'uccle terrors.... they are gorgeous but dangerous in tiny packages!

Yay for health and new pullets W4W! Can't wait to see pictures!

The new chicks are adorable!
And sorry if I missed anything or anyone....... my phone is being temperamental.

Hi, OK and Roger! So great to see you! Yes, even you, Roger.
Roger, I may be hitting the road soon. If I do, you can be a trucking chicken! You will see a lot of California. How does that sound? The neighbors won't hear you over the rumble of truck engines, and when you tick someone off, we will be moving on anyway!

Roger! Feel free to come stay with me, but I'm afraid we're not "south"....

My two broodies are not back to laying yet, so with only 4 birds laying we're getting 3 eggs a day. One a day from the reds and the two ameracaunas that are laying are taking turns laying every other day giving us 2 blue and 1 brown every day. It's okay but I would rather have them all going. We have had to buy eggs. Horrible.

OK!!! so nice to see you pop in! safe travels if you're the one heading south... or if it's just Roger looking for some new digs where her reputation hasn't preceded her... I'm not south either, but I do have an empty pen...

I went on a scavenger hunt today for some scrap lumber and hit the jackpot! there's a house on my route that's been vacant for more than a decade and someone bought it! they are tearing out all kinds of stuff and the pile of scrap lumber made me drool!!! I was welcome to any and all so I made a big load and then stopped at another customer who had a birch trunk on hold for me - when I got there, he saw all the scrap and had me pull up to his garage - he's all finished building whatever he was building and he loaded my truck up with a whole sheet of nice plywood and 5 boards 2x6's 14' long! I have enough to finish the 3rd section and add additional braces and stuff for support! it's coming out so nice, and I have that circus yellow and blue vinyl for the walls. it will be so much better this winter.

7 Eggs today
