Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Howdy OK!

and Roger.

Cheeka, great score on the wood. There are two houses near us that are doing major remodeling. Everything was tossed in dumpsters and removed before I had a chance to scavenge.

Such a waste!

My pullets will arrive tomorrow. The breeder sent them 2 day priority, so even though they were only 5 hours from here, and easily could have arrived today, the USPS held them all day in Sacramento to draw it out to two days.

Even though there was plenty of room on the truck. Hopefully they will make to my PO tonight and I will go down and grab them first thing in the morning, so they won't have to wait all day for our normal 5pm delivery. Hope they're alright!! Got the garage pen disassembled and completely washed down with bleach to kill any remaining virus. Nice clean bedding, sterilized feeder and waterer, and new roost is all ready for the new pullets. I am nervous for them. Hope I sleep!

I saw where Spot passed. Really sorry to hear that. But catch me up did you lose some more? Or are you just expanding ?

OK!!! so nice to see you pop in!  safe travels if you're the one heading south... or if it's just Roger looking for some new digs where her reputation hasn't preceded her... I'm not south either, but I do have an empty pen...

I went on a scavenger hunt today for some scrap lumber and hit the jackpot!  there's a house on my route that's been vacant for more than a decade and someone bought it!  they are tearing out all kinds of stuff and the pile of scrap lumber made me drool!!!  I was welcome to any and all so I made a big load and then stopped at another customer who had a birch trunk on hold for me - when I got there, he saw all the scrap and had me pull up to his garage - he's all finished building whatever he was building and he loaded my truck up with a whole sheet of nice plywood and 5 boards 2x6's 14' long!  I have enough to finish the 3rd section and add additional braces and stuff for support!  it's coming out so nice, and I have that circus yellow and blue vinyl for the walls.  it will be so much better this winter.

7 Eggs today
Nice to catch up with you too. Now let's just be honest. You vision everything in terms of chickens. You don't see a dumpster full of trash. You see a dumpster full of chicken coops that need to be put together. And I am way worse than you ever dreamed . Glad you found your guy who understands this and enables you.

Good morning Ok and Roger!!!!!!

Nice elk Scrambles! I'm assuming elk tastes a lot like deer? I've had venison all my life but never elk.......

Gorgeous pictures as usual Cheeka. Gossamer is so fluffy! I'm glad you have decided to take away the D'uccle terrors.... they are gorgeous but dangerous in tiny packages!

Yay for health and new pullets W4W! Can't wait to see pictures!

The new chicks are adorable!
And sorry if I missed anything or anyone....... my phone is being temperamental.

Hi, OK and Roger! So great to see you! Yes, even you, Roger.
Roger, I may be hitting the road soon. If I do, you can be a trucking chicken! You will see a lot of California. How does that sound? The neighbors won't hear you over the rumble of truck engines, and when you tick someone off, we will be moving on anyway!
Hi MC .......I can have her ready and waiting as soon as I get a time and date......Yes I can deliver her too...

Quote: Thanks. Spot was a favorite and we were sad to lose her. Also lost my gold sexlink.

A breeder up north of us was having a sale on pullets. He was trying to clean out his barn of excessive birds because he was preparing for NPIP testing/certification of his breeding operation, so it was a good deal. I got a jubilee Orp, a Rhodebar, and an olive egger. But one started sneezing as soon as we got them home. Next day the Orp had bubbly eyes. I contacted the guy, and he went to check and saw others in the brooder with symptoms. Infectious laryngotracheitis (ILT) was diagnosed from birds he culled. I had to cull my 3 as well

because even if they survived, they would be carriers and pass it to others. Luckily, I had quarantined the pullets in the garage, so no other chickens got sick. His place is now clean as well, which is lucky as NPIP process started today. My 3 replacements are now on their way here, with complimentary shipping (the poor guy was horrified at having sent out sick birds). This time we are getting another jubilee Orp, a cuckoo Orp (in honor of Spot - Maybe we will call her Big Spotte.

) and a black copper Marans.

Did you hatch out any sex links this year?

Lucky you caught that. Have not had a broody all year with the exception of Big Broody and you know how that story went. I will wait till Spring and decide what to do. I still have six of my original eight alone with the Delawares and BR's I got to produce with the RIR Rooster.

Well I have a problem. I'm going to have to close my flock I think. We have had lots of cold chilly weather lately and I noticed several birds with bubbly eyes and sneezing. GREAT........ I've been trying to go natural so I don't want to use antibiotics and stuff. I'm going to hit them hard with a bunch of herbs ect. and cull hard sometime soon. I'm trying to decide if the Golden comets will be very productive next year or if I should go ahead and cull. They will be 2 next April.

Oh no, lindz. That's terrible. Same symptoms as what mine had, but there are several diseases which present that way. If you can separate the sick ones, you might keep it from spreading. Do you have a state or university lab that can do necropsies?
