Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Cheeka, that blue egg is stunning! Hope everyone had a nice Christmas. Busy busy here and no time for BYC posting (mostly because I can't type and it takes me a ridiculously long time to make a simple post).

Glad to hear from you cheeka!!!

Goats are settling in nicely. We still have some green grass in their pasture and they were happily munching away today!
Yes!

One extra small Silkie egg and one tiny Serama egg. Still waiting on the big girls. We are supposed to have sun for the next week or so. Maybe that will get their hormones flowing!

Nice to see that Roger has avoided the stew pot for so long. OK must be the biggest softie...

Wow... it is snowing big time here. The girls are not happy about it either.

For 4 of them, it is their first snow. They have a nice covered area in the pen, but they prefer to be in that dinky coop. until they here me....
Lil Bit switches around between sleeping with Rump and sleeping in the coop. Right now, she is hanging out with Rumples. On Monday we are supposed to get to the teens and the minus 0 temps at night. I hope that Lil Bit keeps Rump warm.

One from Nugget, Rumples and Lil Bit.

Lilac beat me by 2 days at least! I picked 12/29 months ago. one of those green eggs could have been laid on Christmas day, it was pretty well buried, but when I saw Gossamer's egg, I saw a shadow of another egg, so I poked around more thoroughly and found both of them. I'm pretty sure she laid one today, it was warmish still, but that could be from Gossy sitting to lay her egg...

Scrambles, snow is the pitts... now are you sorry you wanted some of mine? our snow is almost all gone and we're to have rain tomorrow morning which will make puddles of the rest. I hope the reports are right that it will clear up by early afternoon so we can get outside!

Waiting for Spring. I want sex links. And Roger needs some headaches in her deluxe broody coop/ run that she shares with my Roadkill BR and my little formerly crippled BO. The retirement community is going to become a day care center in the spring. No Eggs.....No Peace......Do you hear me Roger?

So, after reading the first couple hundred I get the idea that the girls lay "when they are ready". I have 7 ( buff orphington, barred rock and blk australorp (sp?)) that are 21 weeks old and just put the light on constantly and the nest boxs in the coop. Now comes the wait ... anybody want to guess when and who starts laying?

Constant light is not good. Let them have 12 to 14 hours of light each day by adding light using a timer either in the morning or evening.
