Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

X 4 up here too...

mortie, when I was a very small child, I had a recurring nightmare about giant roosters and hens, as big as our house... and getting trapped... I was terrified of them for a number of years. funny how things change.

One blue egg so far. It is freezing... subfreezing out. Before sunrise, I could see Lil Bit standing next to the door to Rumps pen. She got up early to be near her. It makes me sad that I don't know how Rump lost all of those feathers. I put a fresh rubber bowl of warm water in the pen and threw some scratch in. I think that scrambled eggs will be on the plate for them this morning.

Hmmmm.... the Lavender Ameraucanas are going to make things difficult. Both eggs were collected from the nest boxes this morning. There are exactly the same shade and size. Who laid what and does this confirm that Rump is laying the blue/green eggs?

  • lindz8504, that's a good collections of eggs. And I really like your coop, it looks like a great set up. :bow
The numbers aren't great but better than they have been! I have 36 birds but 6 are roosters! The coop in the picture isn't being used right now for anything other than keeping a feeder dry..... Hubby built a bigger one last winter/spring, and everyone is in it! I have been using the little one as a brooder if I have chicks that need separating!

Four today! All brown, and I'm pretty sure they are all from the G.Comets. Those girls are laying machines... well, except for Harriet who is a broody machine! LOL.... I'm hoping that she is one of the resumed layers, and that everyone else gets on the ball as well! I may process some young cockerels this weekend if the weather permits. "May" being the key word... lol.

I am really missing these beauties.......
