Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

She'll be 1 in march.
They can molt after one year old. Usually when they hatch in Feb of March, they will hold off until the second Fall\Winter.
She may be going through a mini molt though. Has she been stressed?

Everyone is the same age. All hatched on march 15th in my basement.
She is likely the only one that will molt now.

Make sure she is getting a grower or flock raiser chicken feed.

If she is molting, it should be fast and she should not lose many feathers.

Why is she the only one that should molt now when they are all the same age? They were all in the incubator together.

Stress? Nothing except -30F temps.

You never know with chickens. When mine molt, it is not all of them at the same time. One will molt and then another. Molting started in late September and I have three molting now. They look so cute and scrumpy with old feathers falling out.

Do check for lice and mites though.

Can they survive -30 temps? I kinda thought I might be off the hook for bugs right now.

I think feather lice can live at those temps since they live on the chicken.

It is easy to see them. Mites are more of a Spring time problem in the land of cold. Where I live they can be a problem all year long.

How are you feeling MC?

The girls laid 10 eggs today! I'm speechless!!!!
That is very encouraging!

Mites must be under control

They seem to be. After the first treatment I only saw mites on two of them and only a couple. Tho before any treatment I only ever saw a few and not on all girls so while it may be an infestation I think I must have caught it before it got totally out of control.

And they all got two butt treatments w wood ash and I put a ton of ash and de in the nest boxes since that's where their butts spend a lot of time.

This weekend will still be a total coop clean out and full body bath.

And no mites on any eggs....
